Sorta like the equivalent of explorer.exe in Windows but for your Android device. It provides the UI elements and interface to lay out your app icons and, well, launch them. I also like to think of it as the desktop interface to your Android device.

Not everybody works like that, Tony. Some of us have hundreds of thousands of emails in their inbox (I use flags and read/unread to distinguish things that need attention).

Also rarely but sometimes you just want to scroll down 8 years back in an instant, just for fun to see what you land on, and delete a random spam email from 2016. That's information freedom.

Screen sizes are bigger than ever, and now, in 2025, they use screen size as the excuse to kill a useful feature? Really lame, Google.

Yeah but once upon a time it was one or two color-distinguished links, now I have to scroll sometimes multiple pages before I get to the "organic" serps. Enshittification has been at work at Google for a long while now.

If you don't want to be imprisoned by Amazon's ecosystem, Kobo is the best available alternative. Plus, this isn't some LCD, this is a colored e-ink screen, which will feel more like an actual book.

The update gives layer 2 networks like Optimism, Arbitrum, Base, etc. a special "blob" space to save when syncing their L2 to the L1. That's where the savings are, not on L1 transactions.

Is a smartphone with a replaceable battery, expandable storage, and a headphone jack. I can't think of a better way to stand out in today's market without spending millions on R&D.

Maybe they should, oh I don't know, allow their users to customize what they want to see? Occasionally I want to see politics, but I'd like to be able to switch the focus to sports sometimes, or other interests depending on my mood. But I guess that would be far too much power to give your product, err.. users.

Looks like some overly ambitious marketing exec convinced enough people to push the change through, but I can't think of a more pointless place to push "brand awareness" or whatever catchy business lingo they used to convince the decision makers that this was a good idea.

Just a hunch, but I don't think we'll see Google rebranding to "Alphabet Google" anytime soon. Lame move, Microsoft.

Mozilla's problem has never been the tech. The developers that built Firefox did a fantastic job, and they navigated the transition from XUL as best as could be expected. The problem has always been in leadership. Mozilla didn't need to spend however much they did on a logo redesign in order to incorporate :// into their name, yet they did. Mozilla didn't need to scrap their focus on power users in order to futility chase Chrome's dumbed down interface, yet they did. Mozilla didn't need to rent waterfront property on Harrison St for their San Francisco office, yet they did. I'm sure there's countless other examples of dumb decisions by management. This is just what I've witnessed as a longtime user.

I hope that somehow the ship that carries Firefox can at the very least sacrifice itself in order to save the project for future generations. We need a competitor and an alternative to Chromium, and Firefox unfortunately appears to be the last game in town.

How about covering travel time to and from work as well?

It takes two seconds to install uBlock Origin, and you get the added benefit of supporting a rendering engine other than Google's Chromium. If Mozilla's politics bother you and you want a more indie feel to your browser without sacrificing quality, give Waterfox a try.
