Teachers can have kids do short tests in person in class to test knowledge, while using projects that allow AI input to test understanding.

Exactly. The curriculum needs to change as the tools change, and the tests and exams need to change as well. Just like calculators in the classroom were perceived as threats to kids' ability to learn arithmetic, until they were accepted as a useful tool that student would encounter later in life. By the same token, students need to be taught about AI as a tool, and especially its pitfalls.

Comment Re:National sales tax (Score 1) 225

I don't see such a direct relation between sales tax / tariffs, income tax, and capital gains tax. Swapping income tax for tariffs probably isn't going to affect the 1% much, and it doesn't matter much if you have $10M in the bank or not. With that said... a sales tax is a bigger burden on those who spend the largest part of their income on necessities, i.e. the lower incomes. If lowering income tax and raising tariffs is done budget-neutral, then the lower incomes will be worse off, the higher incomes better off.

BTW I thought there's no way Trump can get a 3rd term short of changing the constitution. How's that going to go down?

The number of vaccinated in the Netherlands is dropping across the board: a little under 95% for non-religious people, 90% for Christians, and 60% for Muslims. The interesting part about the latter group is that it seems to be the 2nd and 3rd generation of immigrants who do not get the shots; 1st generation ones do... because vaccination is a normal thing in their country of origin, considered Halal. Morocco for instance has a much higher degree of vaccination than the Netherlands.

Not my experience. I've bought a bunch of different bagless vacuums over the years (for use in rental properties); didn't want to spring for the overpriced Dysons but went with quality brands like Miele and Philips. The critical part in a bagless vacuum is the performance of the cyclone: the better it works, the less dust ends up in the filter.

All vacuums performed poorly on that score; with some I spent more time cleaning the filter than doing actual vacuuming. Only the Dyson held up well, needing only an occasional filter cleaning. One thing to note though: these are not shop vacs. Using them to suck up fine dust from sanding and such will quickly clog and kill them.

With that said, the Dysons are still too expensive for what they are.

So they backtracked on the idea of forcing it on people... and then hid it. I hadn't heard of it, and it wasn't apparent where it lived; no new button or item on the task bar. So, it's an app. Fine. I open it and: "Please login or create a free account". Why? I am already logged into Windows. You want to track stuff, use my MS account if I am logged into that, or use my Windows product key if I'm on a local account, but don't bother me with yet another set of credentials to bother with. ChatGPT at least lets me just login with my Google account and call it a day. MS, you already lost me before I even got to try the tool.

So Lucas doesn't really explain why Yoda talks like that, just why he made Yoda talk like that. To get people's attention.

Unless Yoda himself decided to talk funny so people would pay more attention. Is he on to something there?
The current SG of NATO, mr. Rutte, is an example of that, I think. He speaks English fluently but with that grating Dutch accent. Which is something than can be fixed with relatively little training. Rutte is someone who literally spent most of his adult life training as a debater and public speaker, and prepares every speech and every debate to the last minute detail, watching recordings of other great speakers, and considers scenarios like hecklers, protesters, and the ubiquitous struggling single mom in the crowd, hard-hit by one of his policies (back when he was the PM). Why would someone like that keep that horrible accent? Maybe because he thinks it gives him an edge.

You have to curate your feed a little. I subscribe to the good stuff, and I'm fairly strict about clicking "don't recommend channel" on AI slop and other garbage. As a result my feed is fairly good: the slop still gets through but not to the point where it drowns out good content that I am interested in.
