Comment Re:How do you like that movies? (Score 1) 396

Actually, looking at http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm - they put the average 2013 ticket price at $8.16 - this means that if you want to compare apples to apples, then the $800mm in sales is equal to $108.8mm - which doesn't even get to HALF the #200 all time box office movie, adjusted for inflation.

For comparison, the last Twilight movie made $292mm. Just under triple what GTA V pulled in, if you want to compare apples to apples.

If you want a worldwide comparison, and ignore controlling for cost of ticket/cost of game, GTA V is in 39th place overall (http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/) - not bad, but if you adjust for ticket price, it's not even in the top 500 worldwide overall.

Submission + - TI Plans Minority Report UI : ARM SoC + Projector (itproportal.com)

siliconbits writes: Texas Instruments wants to deliver a Minority Report-like user interface by combining its just-announced OMAP 5 platform, which is based on two Cortex A15 cores, with one of its own DLP pico projectors and a camera. The US semiconductor giant wants to pioneer the use of so-called next generation natural user interfaces by adding hardware support for stereoscopic 3D, gesturing including proximity sensor and interactive projection. This is reminiscent of the SixthSense, a wearable device invented by Pranav Mistry, which was demoed back in March 2009 by the then-PhD student of MIT's Media Lab Fluid Interfaces Group at TED.

Submission + - Portal 2 Gets Release Date (examiner.com)

AndrewGOO9 writes: After what has seemed like an eternity since Valve initially announced a sequel to their lauded puzzle title Portal, a release date has finally been attached to the game. Originally slated to be released before the end of the year in time for the holidays, Valve instead opted to delay the game citing reasons such as, "making games is hard" as well as continuing their tradition of releasing games when they're finished as opposed to rushing them out the door. Either way, mark your calendars for February 9th, 2011 and in the meantime, best brush up on thinking with portals.
