Journal Iamthefallen's Journal: Almost got into a fight today 6

This is written down mostly to make sure I don't forget anything should the police need a statement or my testimony later on. So there's some odd details and very little elaboration in this JE. It's written for recollection, not eloquence.

Work is over for the day, I pull out of the parking lot and into an intersection. To my right I see some people stopped in a parking lot behind a vet clinic outside their cars. As I'm waiting for the light to change, I see a guy take a swing at a girl in my rear view mirror. I whip the car into reverse, floor it and skid into the parking lot. I wait for a minute and just observe what's going on to make sure I haven't misunderstood the situation. I now recognize the girl as someone I work with, Wendy. The guy is heavyset, brown hair, and has some facial hair. The guy and Wendy now have their heads close together and are apparently talking to one another, I'm about 50 feet away. Suddenly there's a little bit of pushing and the guy swings and lands a heavy blow to her head, I think with his left hand. I know I can't just watch any more. I get out of the car and slowly walk towards them, hoping that the mere fact that I'm there will deter him from attacking her again. To my left the vet clinic owner is calling out at him to get away from her. They ask if they should call the police and I say yes. He comes towards me asking if I want to get involved, I just say something like "I'm not getting involved" but keep walking towards them.

I really don't want to fight if I can avoid it. However, I decide that since he's a big guy, a little shorter than me but more heavy set, probably about 6ft/230lbs, he'll probably beat me in a wrestling match. My best bet is to strike first and land a hard kick and then follow up quickly and try to keep some distance. He turns to Wendy and they again wrestle a bit, I keep walking and resign myself to the fact that at this point it seems we're gonna tango a bit. Instead he lets her go, pushing her away, then turns and gets in his truck. The truck was big, red, had tinted windows, a large toolchest on the bed and had very large wheels.

He starts it up and revs it up, Wendy beats on one of the windows with something and I call for her to leave it and let him go. He drives forward a bit into the street, spins the car around pointing it at me and floors it. I jump around Wendys car and watch him stop just short of it. He keeps revving the engine and does a few start/stops threatening Wendy before he finally takes off.

Wendy collapses against her car and the other coworker hugs her. I make sure she's somehwat ok and then go talk to the clinic owner and ask them to call 911. When I come back out Wendy and the other coworker, Luanne, are waiting. They return to the plant while I hang around and wait for the police and ambulance.

And that's pretty much it, a deputy took my contact information so we'll see if they want to get in touch with me. I didn't see Wendy again before I left so I'm not sure how she is. She took one blow square on the jaw and was very dazed when I talked to her. She should recover though and hopefully she'll make sure the guy gets put in jail.

Looking back and thinking about my own actions, I did stop when I saw something happen, I pulled over, got out of my car and was prepared to do what was needed. I never got really nervous, scared or even angry, just determined. I'm kinda pround of that. It tells me something about myself that I'm not sure I knew before.

  • At least. And maybe her life. I pray that she presses charges.

I think you should be very vocal about him pointing the truck at you and you having to move out of the way. If it was deliberate then you have action.

I hope that if someone ever tries to harm my daughter or wife - there is someone like you nearby brave enough and honorable enough to step up.
    • Ditto on the "attempted vehicluar manslaughter" charge. That is something you need to start saying. The man attempted to run you over with his truck. When you dodged, he stayed and if it were not for her vehicle in the way, he would have attempted to do so again. His actions with the intense reving of the engine would lead "a reasonable person" (again another phrase to use) to assume the same thing.

Great job on keeping your cool and doing what needs to be done... get involved and not let an ass push so

you handled that well. what kind of a pussy hits a girl?
  • Did you get the plates or the county of the vehicle? I assume that was the kind of information the officer asked for...

    • Actually I think they knew eachother. Whether he was an ex, an aquaintance or a drug dealer I don't know. But I suspect Wendy will be able to provide the necessary info to find him. The cops asked me surprisingly few questions, pretty much just asked for an overview of what happened. I'm hoping they'll contact me for a full statement later on.

      • Heck... you should consider pressing charges even if she does. The guy attempted to kill or mangle you with his truck. That would be reason enough for me to want to get his ass in court.

The greater the number of total assholes that get hauled into court for their attempted murder / bodily harm the better. Then maybe the word would get out through their ass-hole-news-letter that they shouldn't be such an ass because they could get caught.
