Also I didn't hear Teddy boy complaining about that "milestone" when we passed it in Afghanistan.
Plus, if he REALLY wants to get an accurate length of time US troops have been in Iraq then he has to start from when we entered Iraq during Operation Desert Storm as we've had a continuous military presence in Iraq since then. (It can also be argued that we've been in a near-continuous state of war too since Saddam never honored the cease-fire conditions..

The turn towards darkness was begun in the Mexican-American war of unprovoked agression, and completed by the Spanish American war - also one of unprovoked, Imperial agression.
The Philippines are still a vassal state, after more than 100 years. 70 years have passed, but Americans still rape Okinawan schoolgirls, with immunity from prosecution.

Actually the turn towards darkness began when the Europeans first stepped off shore and went to sea. No wait. The real first step came when the earth cooled. "And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it"
