Submission + - Disabled Woman Denied Entrance to USA Due to Private Medical Records (thestar.com) 4

Jah-Wren Ryel writes: The latest from the front lines in the War on Dignity:

In 2012, Canadian Ellen Richardson was hospitalized for clinical depression. This past Monday she tried to board a plane to New York for a $6,000 Caribbean cruise. DHS denied her entry, citing supposedly private medical records listing her hospitalization.

Comment Re:Intel was not an option (Score 1) 229

Of course it is an option.

Intel's profits have been sagging for a few years due to the drop in PC sales, which is their core business. They have been unsuccessful for the most part in cracking the mobile device marker despite a lot of effort.

Investors have been pushing management to take some of their world class factories and make money fabbing chips for other companies, something that would have a big impact on their bottom line since their manufacturing technology is a generation ahead of everyone else and therefor would command a premium.

Intel has already signed fab agreements with other companies and it has been common knowledge for a while that Intel and Apple were in talks about just such a deal: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Foundry-manufacturing-Apple-Intel-14nm,21400.html

Not heading in this direction would have caused shareholder revolt.

Submission + - Right-Wing Extremists Tricked by Trojan Shirts (spiegel.de)

gzipped_tar writes: Fans at a recent right-wing extremist rock festival in Germany thought they were getting free T-shirts that reflected their nationalistic worldview. But after the garment's first wash they discovered otherwise. The original image rinsed away to reveal a hidden message from an activist group. It reads: "If your T-shirt can do it, so can you. We'll help to free you from right-wing extremism."

Comment Limitation of search (Score 1) 407

I starting seeing this problem around 8:30 am est and tried to search the web for information about it, to see if it was something specific to my computer/isp/settings.

I guess that is a big limitation of the internet - it's very hard to find information about events as they happen since:
1. Search indexes need to be updated, which takes time
2. Community sites need to wait for stories to be submitted and edited or dug up
3. Major news organizations only rush stories with mass appeal.

I haven't used IRC in a while - maybe it would be better for disseminating breaking tech news? (or I should check out twitter)

Microsoft to Offer Free Online Storage 290

athloi writes "Microsoft Corp. is giving computer users up to 500 megabytes of online storage for their documents, music, photos and video. They're offering it to a select 5,000 test users for now, but will make it widely available later this summer. This move is the latest in a series by the previous large corporation we all loved to hate to compete with the newest large corporation we might hate and fear, Google."
