EXCELLENT first go from Ford at an electric pickup truck. Beat Musk to market and even taught him a lesson or two. The Lightning was supposed to be replaced in a few years anyway (T3) and most of us knew it as a science experiment. I applaud the engineering team who had impossible timelines, almost no budget and a seemingly impossible mandate to build an EV truck with as many off the shelf parts as possible. Does it have some short comings? Well, no more than it's ICE cousin- is it big? It's no bigger than the ICE version. It drives like a dream and I've used its "Full size" quite often to haul stuff. Maybe I'm the exception. It was a good learning platform for Ford and if/when they design an EV truck from the ground up, they'll have plenty of experience under their belt. Now is a good time to retreat, retool and rebuild. Chevy upped the ante, making the Lightning look long in the tooth. And let's not even talk about the cybertruck abomination. It only gets credit for laying down the gauntlet.

It's a printer. It's almost as if every security story these days make it sound like the world will end. Do you put your printer on the Internet? People can do other unscrupulous things that have nothing to do with these CVE's - like, I dunno, maybe unplug the printer, throw it out a window, pour water or coffee on it.. It's a printer for crying out loud. Show me an exploit where the printer uses "Cloud services"(no thank you) and a remote attacker can reverse-ssh into the printer and use it as a jump point(from the Internet). These CVE's seem to be directed at people who have no common sense and might actually place the printer on the Internet. I have not sympathy for them.

Take that component out of your equation then. The value of the car should be separated from the value of the battery - for cars with swappable batteries that is - a new model needs to be applied where the battery is a fixed value and assumed to not depreciate as there should be a service that certifies a specific value at any given time - can vary form brand to brand - but the buyer should need to be buying the battery, they should be buying the car - and pay for battery swaps with a presumed value of the size of the battery.

Not sure if your're repeating FUD or not. But, I hear the argument you refer to quite a lot. What I don't understand is why? This is an easily solvable problem - in fact. what if I told you your battery would always be "new"? Use the propane BBQ example: We have no problem buying a BBQ with a BRAND NEW propane tank(empty) only to take swap it for a full tank so that you can grill a few burgers. That tank you swapped for is not "NEW", but it is full, and it is certified safe and viable. It performs just like the new one you just bought and "gave away". Look at fork lifts - same concept. These tanks are built to last, and are inspected to certify safety and reliability. It's no different for batteries - I'd argue it's even better with batteries because on-board BMS can track usage and allow the energy supplier to swap out bad batteries when there is a problem detected. The end user will be assured a quality, and never have to worry about having to replace arguably the most expensive component of their vehicle. The energy suppliers are way better equipped to work with the recyclers en-masse to insure discount replacements and everyone is safe and happy. My point is, this is an easily solvable problem, and nothing new. Both economically, technically and safely.

Elon's PR has been under water since "Chainsaw!". The sales event at the Whitehouse did not help. He knows it and NEEDS the attention. This is just another attempt to get eyes on him - to feed the ego and calm the nerves. Nothing more than that - just like he was going to save the stuck boys in the cave and other BS to get attention. Not likely, but maybe this statement will make him spend more time at SpaceX to ensure he is not labeled a complete fraud and spend more time out of politics. Give the crying baby a shiny toy - that'll shut them up.

"Better to fix the planet we're on" Ah, yes... But what better way to LEARN about how to fix this planet than to try to awaken a different planet, like Mars? In other words, there's value in the action. Going and trying to live on mars does not mean we forsake mother Earth. The knowledge gained from the journey can be applied inwards.
