Raspberry Pi was first launched on 29 February 2012 in the UK and it was received with a huge amount of enthusiasm by students and researchers alike. The Pi has had quite an eventful year, with researchers building a Raspberry Pi cluster; release of an official turbo mode patch; a 512 MB RAM upgrade; the launch of a Pi Store; sales of over a million units; and release of the Minecraft Pocket Edition."

Made for Wi and PS and Xbox, although I mainly have played on Wii.

Very good for cooperative gaming (up to 4 simulataneously), you can die an infinite number of times and all it does is lower your score (you res in-place). Versions based on popular movie series (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc) are available for relatively cheap (if you wait until a year has passed). Great fun with my non-gamer wife!

At my workplace, the default office install on all new machines deliberately sets the default Office Save types to .doc, .xls, and .ppt because people want that compatibility when exchanging files with colleagues and coworkers around the globe. So it's not just people who haven't upgraded that want to save and create files in .doc

If this applies to Google Drive as well, I am so out of there.

To paraphrase Cory Doctorow, "The best thing about a book is that I can own it". I can't give away an e-book, or loan it to a friend, or (usually) check one out of a library. Until these things change, I'm staying with paper.

All someone has to do is write a script that systematically generates and submits email addresses, and no one would ever be able to create a new Myspace account ever again!

(Yes, I know, you'd probably need to make a full-scale DDOS out of it so that MySpace can't tell that all the submissions are coming from the same IP address, and it's entirely possible that you'd crash Myspace's servers before successfully submitting all of the possible email addresses at pingable domains. Perhaps a more attainable goal would be to wipe out all of the possible Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail addresses fewer than 10 characters long?)

Canada's Copyright Cops Give Go-Ahead For iPod Tax 230

An anonymous reader writes "Michael Geist reports that the Canada's Copyright Board has given the go-ahead for a new copyright tax on iPods, despite an earlier court decision blocking the fee. The Board apparently ruled that not including iPods would make criminals of millions of Canadians and that the levy could conceivably be applied to cellphones and personal computers. 'If we're going to make P2P legal through a levy system, the system must (1) address both downloading and uploading; (2) consider addressing non-commercial use of content; (3) cover audio and video; and (4) more closely link the copying to those paying the levy. The government has yet to play its hand on this issue, but with the prospect of an unpopular levy and mounting pressure for a Canadian fair use provision, it will have to take a stand sometime soon.'"
