I really wish the US would reprocess its nuclear waste. I haven't listened to any congressional hearings on the subject, but I get the feeling that the US does not reprocess its nuclear waste in order to have a nuclear waste problem to complain about, which drives public interest against nuclear power.

Reprocessing costs money, but storage has a lot of its own issues. Besides, material is needed for many reasons, look at the challenge NASA had getting material to power various spacecraft not long ago.

Comment Cost of access? (Score 1) 139

I've seen a lot of comments on different sites for some time now, regarding the low cost of internet access in Europe. Especially compared to prices to the US. Is it possible ISPs have not priced their services to cover their costs adequately?

Its nice to offer symmetrical gigabit service and all that, but multiply that by the number of customers, I suspect they have bit off more than they can chew.

Comment Hardware vs Software (Score 2, Informative) 81

Long ago, I used to have a HD antenna with 6 tuners connected to a server. One client was a PC that used an MPEG software stack to decode and render the stream, another was a small set-top box that had only a low-power CPU and an MPEG decoder chip.

The PC used to crash all the time due to occasional corruption in the broadcast stream (especially during thunderstorms), whereas the set-top box plowed right through it and kept going.

Something to think about.

The article said they used Active Directory to map resources. You could also find resources looking at DNS servers. There are numerous ways to do this using various resources that store names of other resources. If you replace them, how will you prevent access to your new 'thing' considering that they obtained the credentials needed to access these current things first.

The user falling for the phishing attack is likely the biggest unsolved problem. Unpatched servers is solvable.
