Startup companies are a form of communism, as the early employees own a significant fraction of the company.

If they do well, they normally convert to capitalism where the workers don't own the company any longer, and the original staff cash out.

A sign saying "No ball games on this grass" is an exception that suggests the existence of a rule that you can play ball games on the rest of the grass.

It is supposed to mean that the existence of an exception suggests the existence of the assumed rule.

The reason behind the use of the different letters is their different chemical behaviour though. You use D often enough it would be a pain to write H^2 every time. When you are buying deuterated NNR solvent, or writing H/D solvent exchange mechanisms, it's simply easier to use D rather than H^2. If other isotopes were used as commonly, they would have developed their own additional letter code!

The fact chemists give Deuterium a different letter, D rather than H, gives you a hint they consider it to behave differently. C12 and C13 don't get different letters, they get a superscript instead.

Since the only difference is their weight, it only really matters for H. He doesn't really do any interesting chemistry it doesn't get it's own letter for different isotopes like H does.

The main difference is the chemical energy to break the bond, as the zero-point vibrational energy is different.

Basically when you have two atoms bound together, there is a minimum vibrational energy they can have, due to the way the quantum mechanics works out. Deuterium being heavier than Hydrogen has a lower minimum energy, and so the bond is harder to break than a normal H-O bond, as it starts from a lower energy level.

Submission + - CEO and half the board of UK Domain regitra Nominet voted out by members (techradar.com)

Grantbridge writes: Nominet is the UK Domain registra and has been increasing prices for years. This resulted in the various UK domain hosting companies setting up a campaign to make them obey their public service mission. This has resulted in an emergency meeting and the voting out of the CEO and half the board members.

In an extraordinary turn of events, half of Nominet’s board has been voted out with immediate effect; the culmination of a long-drawn public campaign calling for the board’s overhaul. Board members of the Internet infrastructure firm Nominet, which regulates UK domain names, had been under fire for several months now for their decisions to take the company away from its not-for-profit mission. “I find it sad that we’ve got to this point,” said board chairman Mark Wood at the start of the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) as reported by The Register. “In the past, we clearly haven’t listened well enough to our members. We know that many things we need to do better,” said Wood, who was one of the members voted out, along with Nominet CEO Russell Haworth.
