Comment Insulation isn't good enough. (Score 1) 138

On a hot summer day, tons of insulation might help but ultimately isn't going to get the job done. Not if you actually cook and have other appliances actually generating heat. Not if you live a modern lifestyle and have televisions, computers, and computer monitors actually generating significant heat.

Comment Work ethic issues. (Score 4, Insightful) 87

There are many people who are incredibly dedicated to their jobs, even while working remotely. I truly feel for these people and hope that they are identified and given exceptions where appropriate. But there are also clear work ethic issues associated with remote work. Just another one of those issues where a group of people trying to exploit the system end up ruining it for everyone. Fact is, there ARE a lot of people who love remote work *specifically because* they can practically ghost their job and always do the absolute minimum to not get fired. It's a lot easier to get away with this when you aren't in an office with other real people. Just like all of the kids who loved remote schooling during covid, because for all intents and purposes, it was like having a year (or more) off of school.

Comment Sounds good to me. (Score 1) 145

Hollywood has been among the most pro-Chinese industries around, even willingly pushing Chinese propaganda sometimes (see John Cena's gag-inducing bent-knee apology to China over simply mentioning Taiwan). So I really don't see anything bad coming from this. Worst case, some Hollywood elites living in a bubble lose some money? We get movies actually targeting American audiences again?

Comment Then don't watch the movie. (Score 1) 83

If you have a problem with a movie, whatever that problem may be, then *don't watch it*. Nothing sends a clearer message than a movie that flops. If it doesn't flop, then you'll have to deal with the reality that most people probably don't care - regardless of the doom and gloom actor's union narrative.
