Agree with a lot of that but there is another element to consider. The living knowledge we have as a species. We have finite time to learn until daily life gets in the way of significant acceleration in further mental and intellectual growth and eventually decline begins. If the period we can learn and comprehend extends so can better solutions be found to limited resources etc.

Once most humans didn't make it past 50 - yet we now regularly see 80 and yet humanity has prospered.

It seems convenient now that the older population perishes and stops becoming a burden on the new generations but that is a specific circumstance of our time. It would be a short term solution and we would likely lose more than we gain if most old people would die of natural causes suddenly.

Once you could share them cool pictures with family and friends unless you emailed that and with limitations the the nature of emails it was never going to compete with a "wall" and broadcasting your latest "look what I'm having for breakfast" pictures...but now you can share pictures through almost any chat app or just share folder access to thousands of them at once.
