I noticed something interesting this morning. When I log into slashdot, there is a little white 'x' that appears next to my name. Not a close-window x, but a letter x. I do not see it on others' accounts. I logged into a different account and did not see the x there.

Seems to be browser independent.

Is this a visible reminder that I am in ./'s timeout corner?

You are in the timeout corner? Like "I've been downmodded too much," or "My IP has been banned for too much stuff being posted."
If you cannot reply, just update the JE, I'll check back. Sadly I just blew all my mod points, otherwise I'd help out.

I think it used to be anasterisk or something, but I think its now the "x". I have one too, and I seem to recall someone else asking the question not too long ago. Which I guess technically does count as a type of branding;-)

There's a user information box on the side of some of the screens, and unlike all of the other slashboxes, it's got a letter X instead of a close icon, but clicking the X closes the box all the same.
If that's not it, then I dunno.
