I'm not an engineer because of the money. If I were to make more money as a salesman, I would still be miserable. I'm an engineer because I love the challenge of applying science to create something.
Also, I don't work for salesmen. it's pretty much the other way around, since without the engineer there would be nothing to sell. That said, I work independently and don't really need a salesman to sell my services (and I still make a decent living).
