Landfill is an incredibly wasteful, environmentally damaging (even in the short term - public health, habitats, aesthetically, even the smell it creates!) practice that should be avoided where it is possible to reuse rather than throw.

In places like the UK, there is simply not enough space outside of habitation or areas of natural beauty to landfill forever.
