they are charging you more if you shop in store. they want you to shop online and have walmart+ and they will offer you the lowest price if you do

other stores like HEB are doing the exact opposite: they claim no curbside fees on their website, but they lie and they will increase the price of the item 5% if you choose pickup. try logging to an account to confirm what i am saying

every advance in technology comes at the expense of "rotting our brains"

example: calculators caused our brains to "rot", because we no longer are good at math

computers caused our brains to "rot", because we no longer need to manually process tons of data

AI will cause our brains to "rot", because now we have someone do our work for you.

yes, AI WILL replace some jobs, and at the same time it will help us do things that we couldn't do before. a bunch of new jobs will be created, as humans still need to code and train the AI. Will there be a time in which AI will be self sufficient? probably yes.

i'm also concerned about the environment impact. I'm really hoping this pushes humanity to develop and advance clean energy (solar, hydrogen, wind, etc)

newsflash: DVD's WILL fail at some point too...

If the data is truly valuable to you, you will have multiple copies, and you will TEST the backups to ensure they are working

Today's "games" don't try to reward you in that classic sense anymore.

this still happens today. you have people competing to "platinum" a game and get all of their trophies. exactly the same thing.

if you prefer percentages, big open world games do the same. i recall working very hard to get 100% with gta 5 and rdr 1, the only 2 games i have ever gotten 100%

pihole doesn't block ads directly, it simply blocks from resolving some dns hostnames that are known to serve ads, which is not how adblockers work.

pihole on its own will block barely 10% of what UBO blocks, and that comes from someone that has over 800k hosts on pihole lists

> With climate change already making everything hotter, adding an hour of daylight to every day will just make things hotter still! I know my lawn will never make it through all that extra daylight.

LMAO i have never laughed so hard at a comment before left on this forum.

a timezone change does not ADD (or remove) an hour of daylight. it's the same planet, it will spin the same every day, and thus the same amount of light LOL.your lawn won't know any difference!

why not use turbotax online?

it's great that apple is offering a laptop for less than $999 now, but i don't think this is disruptive to the PC industry.

plenty of decent windows laptops for 400-500 and with even more RAM to boot. no mom is going to switch from windows to mac and have to relearn everything (and figure our a big chunk of their current apps are not available)

We don't need it, we don't want it

yes you do, yes you want it, otherwise why did you agree to use it?

i have never used claude but i have a bit more respect for the company now

prime is for free shipping and nothing else. no one has prime for the basic music catalog nor prime video

slashdot doesn't like using tags and after decades there isn't still an edit button. sigh

Back then we had 2. for stable releases, 2. for unstable, and big features would lead to a new 2.x version.

maybe we can argue that due to maturity there aren't really big changes any longer though

genAI is new so the recession comparison is not relevant.

jobs are and will be replaced further by AI. no one knows how bad is it going to get though. amazon stock is nearly 20% down ytd and we are still in february

and here i am hating on my toyota dash because the hvac buttons are a mess, no free maps, android auto volume cannot be independently controlled from music. at least i have them, plus heated seat button and a volume physical switch/turn on/off radio, and can even move to next/prior station via wheel buttons.

i guess i could be doing a lot worse

not even yuka tells me this, which is the most complete app i have found
