You'll notice how the police basically do nothing to drivers who block pavements impeding pedestrians. They really do not generally care about such things. But if a pedestrian blocks something from a megacorp, well that's a different matter. Megacorps first, drivers second, and people using their legs will always come a distant third.

Explain how you'd fake a 3000lb+ car made of non-magnetic metals being able to suspend itself upside down, do an in-place flip, a barrel roll, and an inverted barrel roll, and have a 0.8s quarter mile while being co-witnessed by no fewer than 4 cameras (including multiple fly-over drones) at a live event.

That's really easy. You don't make the car capable of doing the car things. It doesn't have to for a flying demo. Then you fill it with your rocket stuff.

That compares to the OP's claim that the car is CG how?

It isn't reproducing the work, it only looks like it is, because the training data is fundamentally not in there. And the longer a piece you try to reproduce the more clear this becomes, because you get more errors. Even for a work it's overtrained on, it still struggles to do verbatim reproduction.

This still leaves open the question because it's based on recognizable elements and that's subjective.

Submission + - Bringing USB 3 and USB4/Thunderbolt to Windows 98 to 7 (yeokhengmeng.com)

In the past couple of months, I addressed this issue on the side with AI's help. So now, we even got USB 3 and USB4/Thunderbolt on vintage OSes.

Submission + - Working Palm OS Virus Rediscovered After 25 Years (linkedin.com)

ardiri writes: Palm OS developer Aaron Ardiri has rediscovered the original source code of a working, self-replicating Palm OS virus he developed and tested in June 2001, months before the planned PalmSource developer conference in San Jose.

Named "Virii," the virus intercepted Palm OS system calls to progressively infect legitimate applications while preserving their original functionality. Infected applications could then spread between handheld devices through infrared beaming, potentially allowing an infection to propagate among hundreds of developers exchanging software at the conference.

The virus also included a date-triggered payload designed to interfere with system time reporting between October 23 and 27, 2001, potentially causing erratic clocks, unreliable alarms, and missed appointments. Following the September 11 terrorist attacks, PalmSource 2001 was postponed until February 2002, and the experiment never went ahead. The virus was never publicly released.

In 2016, Ardiri mentioned the experiment in a retrospective about his involvement in the infamous Palm OS Liberty Trojan incident, believing the original source code had been lost. In October 2026, he rediscovered the complete implementation on a CompactFlash card containing files dated June 2001.

The newly published retrospective documents the original infection mechanism, potential conference-wide propagation, and historical context. The functional source code and binaries will remain private.

Submission + - Scientists Discover Why Microplastics Are Linked to Inflammation (scientificamerican.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Microplastics are a source of extreme concern for health: the presence of these tiny pieces of plastic has been linked to heart attacks, stroke, dementia and brain tumors. But what drives these associations is unclear. Now a study published in Nature offers a tantalizing clue: microplastics interact with water, generating highly reactive molecules. When microplastics come into contact with water, the water near their surface can become chemically active, generating highly reactive species that can modify nearby substances, including biologically important molecules.

As plastics wear down to microscopic sizes, their surface-to-volume ratio increases dramatically. For example, when a credit card is fragmented into particles some 10 microns in diameter, there is a more than 200-fold increase in its surface area, says Wei Min, a chemist at Columbia University and one of the senior authors of the study. As a result, any chemical activity is amplified. Min and his colleagues examined various microplastics—including polystyrene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate. Plastic surfaces are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water, Min says. Thus, water molecules cannot form the hydrogen bonds they maintain in liquid form. That changes molecular arrangements, and, in turn, the change influences the local electrical environment and chemical reactivity.

The presumed chemical inertness of bulk plastics overlooks the toxicity of their fragmented microscale forms. “For microplastics, this is especially important because fragmentation creates enormous amounts of new surface area,” Min says. In past research, microplastics have been shown to cause inflammation, oxidative stress and decreased mitochondrial activity. The new study provides a possible mechanism for this, showing that plastic-water interfaces can perturb proteins, cell membranes, and more. How this might contribute to damage in living tissues in humans is still unclear, Min says. “Ultimately, we hope to connect fundamental interfacial chemistry with quantitative measurements of biological effects, which would help us better understand potential health risks,” he adds.
