Well, under some conditions an unique movie car *would* be copyrightable. The case where the car is effectively a character is just one of the ways you can argue a car to be copyrightable.

Copyright is supposed to protect original creative expression, not ideas or functional items, which may be protected by *other* forms of intellectual property like trademark or patents. This is because copyright protects *creative expression*. It doesn't protect ideas, or functional items. A car is a functional item, so *normally* it isn't protected. But to the degree a car in your movie has unique expressive elements that are distinct from its function, those elements can be copyrighted.

But the plaintiff still wanted to claim that he owned the design of the car, so his lawyer looked for a precedent that established that cars can sometimes be copyrighted even though they are functional items, and he found the Batmobile case, where the Batmobile was ruled to be a prop that was *also* a character. Because he cited this case, the judge had to rule whether the Batmobile ruling's reasoning applied to this car, and he decided it didn't. The car may be unique and iconic, but that's not enough to make it a character.

As incompetent as human beings can be you are just not going to convince me that somebody who works in a biohazard level 4 lab is going to do something like that.

I'm generally with you on this, but this part of your argument is bananas. That Wuhan lab has had leaks before, so we know for sure that they are incompetent.

Yes, our mouths become "drippy" when we eat bacon, because bacon is delicious and makes one's mouth water.

Antieconomic? It produces a lot of economic activity. You don't know what that word means, why are you using it?

Of course eating meat is not unsustainable, except as practiced. But just wait until you find out that our modern agricultural methods are also unsustainable. Your food is destroying the planet just like our food, and for exactly the same reason, specifically non-regenerative agriculture.

Yeah, it's "the control of a state or organization by large interest groups" ... like corporations. In the USA, corporatism is overwhelmingly a corporate activity, since Citizens United.

I think the mod points should be more available but reported using log values to effectively summarize larger numbers of votes. And I also think it should be possible to see more posts that have categorical upvotes. Easy example is the mostly insightful votes that have a couple of funny votes. I think there are too many insightful mods for posts that are only slightly insightful, but the ones with some humor in them tend to be more interesting.

I have adjusted my filters but I think that I should adjust them to reflect the new AC situation. I think the old situation of true ACs has been blocked. So now the AC comments are actually coming from registered users. The best of them are using AC as a kind of vehicle for humor, but the worst of them are being deliberately rude or cowardly. Since I'm usually checking for "Funny", it doesn't bother me too much when an AC comment is modded into visibility for being "funny enough".
