There's no "they" that made capitalism intentionally. It evolved, it wasn't designed. But if it had been, it would have been designed to keep the wealthy on top and the rest of us under foot, and that's what it would have been doing when functioning "correctly". Adam Smith has been called by many the father of capitalism, but that's nonsense. He was describing the workings of a system which predated him.

Capitalism was arguably created (though still not invented) by the merchants who superseded kings. The monarchs needed money, but they needed the people with the talent for making it to collect it, and those people gained their own power and moved the levers. But they were competitors more than collaborators, which is the only reason we haven't all been completely screwed for centuries already. If they cooperated and carved us and our resources up among them deliberately they would have subjugated us all long ago. Now technology has made it possible to meaningfully control the mobb instead of just hoping to lead it to where you want it to go.

All hands on deck for the imminent flooding to be caused in SoCal by hurricane Polo. Baja was already flooding hours before the storm arrived, and the big cities down there are paved over and can't absorb anything, so it's practically 100% runoff in populated areas. Fingers crossed for it to be a lot better than I'd fear.

RO wastes water. A really efficient rig only wastes about (side note, why the fuck does Google always think I'm trying to write "Scott" for "about"? Talk about a failure of statistical analysis) 8 gallons for every gallon produced... Not a big deal for most households for drinking water, and it can still go to the garden, but a big problem for a whole house system.

Training the robots' models in a simulation before training them in the real world won't make them safer. In fact if anything it will make them less safe due to their earliest training being subtly different from reality. What it does is make it cheaper and less dangerous to train them, and faster because you can run the simulation faster than reality.
