Journal Em Emalb's Journal: should I stop doing polls? 26

Kinda getting bored with it.

Kinda getting bored with slashdot to be honest.

Lately I've been scary close to blasting people in the comments and stuff, which while I am an asshole, isn't like me. Anyway.

On to the poll:

Should I stop doing the polls:

A) no

B) yes

should I stop doing polls?

  • er. No - don't stop because we tell you. Stop because you decide to.
  • I like polls, but I think that Em is in a very stagnant place in his life, and that the slashdot ennui is only a symptom of a greater discontent.
    • Just wait until winter comes. (winter of his discontent, I crack me up!)
    • maybe.

I honestly don't know. My life outside of work and the dot here is fine. I'm better than ever with my marriage, I quit smoking, I'm exercising, I'm on a diet, I'm rocking.

But here, I'm just well, here. I'm starting to do things because I think it's expected rather than because I want to.

      And that sucks.

Maybe what I'll do is just back off some and post when I feel like it as opposed to when I get in, after lunch, and before I leave. Cause I feel like a lot of you out there have come to expect th
      • Do whatever you want. Just don't leave us poor slashdotians; that would be mean.
      • nothing personal, but I do not expect you to post and do not always read your posts , but do enjoy what I read the majority of the time.

so, my answer is to do what feels right to you. If you continue to post when you do not feel that it is genuine... why then it is not really You posting anyway.

      • post whatever you want whenever you want. i always saw the polls as your way of initiating a conversation. if you don't want to start so many, don't. the real thing that makes it good is getting pieces of the real em from the polls. if the real em isn't into it, it's not as good.

i wrote a word in all capital letters yesterday, and i thought of you when i did it. it wasn't just any word either, it was "blasphemer."

the truth of this forum is that even though many of us would probably be friends in real
        • i saw that. i was gonna respond but something came up.

blasphemer. it's a good word, even if it means something bad.

yeah you know, it's a damned weird community we have here. i mean, where else can you get advice from so many different types? we got 35yos living with their parents, 40something sex kittens ;) hardcore music nuts, normal folks, freaks, and geeks. it's eclectic.
      • Try trolling the trolls.

Umm, do what I do, pop in and out of virtual existence at random.

Rip people to shreds in comments, always fun. :)

Come up with creative new non-porno ascii art to post in comments.
  • And I therefore command you to entertain me.

I say this, of course, as a lame attempt to entertain you.

    God, do I suck.

    Cheers,

    Ethelred

PS: I vote AAA+++. Or else.

  • Polls are stupid.
  • You pick some of the most off the wall subjects to poll about (much better than the front page) and I would miss it very much if you stopped.

How's about you back off a bit with your comments, and when there's a great thread to add to, jump in with both feet. (the four-letter word one comes to mind) That way, you can go back to making yourself happy (which is the only thing that counts anyway) and we'd still get to be the recipients of your kick-ass sense of humor.

    ^_^

  • I'd guess that adding polls has become something you are expected to do - which is what makes it less fun and interesting. Give it a temporary break, perhaps until you get back from vacation, and you can still be the pollmaster.
  • C.) It's life, Jim, but not as we know it...

    EMMMMMMMMY baby don't leeeeave me....

*sniff* i promise i will take out the trash* and make eth clean up his toys.**

I will donate Fortknox to charity*** and stop wearing the ugly sweater with the chicken on it.****

I will stop telling you to cook your own damn dinner...^

*by which i mean, i will stop polling so often

**No, i really won't. You try getting Eth to clean up his toys. Like trying to get a deer out of the highway, he just sniffles and hits you on the

  • You do polls?!

    Since when?

    ....Bethanie....
  • Okay, maybe I should re-phrase that. I will kill -9 you. Or kill -10 you (SIGBUS). Or kill -34 (virtual timer alarm).
  • Feel free to blast me there mate.... I'll blast right back >:)

  • Dude, you probably won't read this because it's too late now, but maybe you could take two weeks off for a refresher and see if you miss us? However, we'll miss you dude, but personally, I'd rather you enjoy writing stuff for us instead of doing it just to do it. Maybe a break would help.

If you decide to permanently quit (God forbid) could you please let us know and drop in now & then?

I think I need a break from the dot sometimes because I get a little overwhelmed with it and wanna do other things.
  • How do you feel about it? I'm gonna quit!
    A: Yes
    B: No
Hah! a poll within a poll. Even though I don't often post in 'em, I really enjoy your polls. Heh! I just admitted to enjoying Em's poll.
  • Any Jarhead gets my attention. Coming up on our B-Day eh Jarhead? OOh-Rah! Points if you remember mine [B-day] is 911.
