Much appreciated. I just can't play any sport with any degree of skill that involves other people I'm not hitting.
    • my top choices would be fencing and skateboarding. i don't watch sports on tv, except once in a great while. i don't now nor have i ever cared about football. i suppose that makes me unamerican or something. sorry. i think it's fine that other people dig football so much. like i said, it's not that i dislike it, i just don't care. though i do get annoyed by the rabid OSU buckeye fans here. i don't know, maybe it's related to the introvert part of me.

fencing is cool. one of the best workouts you'll

  • Please. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever... call soccor football again (would you rather get a soccor player angry or a 400lbs defensive lineman mad?).

(BTW - I originally mad about 5000 more evers, but the lameness filter engaged in a melee with me, and I fled).
    • would you rather get a soccor player angry or a 400lbs defensive lineman mad?
You can probably outrun the lineman and live to taunt another day. The soccer guy will eventually catch you even if it looks like you're getting away at first.
      • OK, how about a 250lbs Linebacker, then?

Born and bred killers. Then can stop a 250lbs running back, keep up with 180lbs WRs, and can outsmart 350lbs O-linemen.
        • just stall him by saying things like, "how many fingers do you have?" or, "i've got a great knock-knock joke; you start it." while he crunches the numbers you give him the slip.

ok, i know some football players and they're not all stupid. i just couldn't resist. it's all in good fun, right? (translation, if you are a 250lb linebacker, please don't hurt me.)

          triangle man hates person man.
  • NFL, then college football, then a toss-up between college basketball and MLB (the money thing has gotten out of hand, sucking away my interest).

    Football all the way.
I used to be a huge baseball fan, but I haven't been to a game since the strike '95.
  • Jai Alai

not because I've ever seen a game (match?), but I like the idea of a game that has a ball that moves THAT FAST.

wow. google doesn't give you much about Jai Alai.

I don't like watching a lot of sports... I'll watch the super bowl, and basketball finals.. but I'd rather play the game badly than watch others do it well.
  • At least the English leagues and national teams.
  • It could be either G or E. The answer is 'G' if you accept motorsports. I particularly like AMA Superbike, World Rally Championship racing, and Paris-Dakar rally (two wheels and four wheels).

If you don't count motorsports (You really need to look at the PT regimen of some motocrossers) then the answer is 'E'.

(Oh, in case anyone was interested, I don't care for Sprints, NASCAR, or Grand National events. Real motorsports have left AND right turns)
  • I would have voted for Hockey, but I guess I'll have to go with Football.

Sadly though, I'm a Penguins fan.
  • Paint ball, swimming, Pro Wrestling(but only when they aren't being all goofy with weird plot devices), and sparing with friends.
  • Watch:
Football (CFL all the way baby), NFL (only playoffs), Hockey (playoffs), Volleyball (championships/olympics), Beach Volleyball (mmm), Basketball (used to watch a lot when Michael Jordan was around), Fighting (UFC, shootfighting championships not boxing), Billiards (I always try to learn from those expert 9 ball players), Rally Racing (Those Subaru WRX's make me drool... I'd love to have one of those... our roads here in Winnipeg are like the rally race roads with all 'em potholes :/), Curling (hurry
  • ...Well, my favorite game to play occasionally is Viking Football. The idea is that it is American Football, only the other team's players substitute for the innocent pigskin, which you must drag across the endzone to take out of the game. The team with players left at the end wins. Anything (save punching or kicking) goes. I remember there was one game that resulted in a draw, however, because the two medium-sized guys on the opposing team couldn't seem to gain any yards against me, but I wasn't really

  • Leave it to a computer nerd to miss one of the four major North American sports. And in Canada, this is grounds for a good ass-kicking.

I'll defer punishment to the resident Canadian hockey player. LadyGuardian, do you want me to tie him up on the boards so you can come in with a cross-check upside the head, or would you rather have the open-ice hit?

    • And in Canada, this is grounds for a good ass-kicking.

      Amen.

I'll defer punishment to the resident Canadian hockey player

I have to figure that elsewhere on /. there is another Canadian that plays hockey. If not I'll just be shocked.

do you want me to tie him up on the boards so you can come in with a cross-check upside the head, or would you rather have the open-ice hit?

I am quite partial to suicide pass method ^_^
    • No shit! I choose:

      H) Hockey. (Go Rangers!)
    • I watch hockey [go Canucks!] & used to play ice hockey in an instuctional league. I was good enough to enjoy it. However, the only reason that I didn't ride the pine is because it was an instructional league where everybody got to play. :^)

I miss the cold weather, where ice skating was common. *sigh*
    • In jest:

Slashdot seems to be very U.S.-centric. Do you have any plans to be more international in your scope?

Slashdot is U.S.-centric. We readily admit this, and really don't see it as a problem. Slashdot is run by Americans, after all, and the vast majority of our readership is in the U.S. We're certainly not opposed to doing more international stories, but we don't have any formal plans for making that happen. All we can really tell you is that if you're outside the U.S. and you have news, submit it,
  • Not really sure if I can pin down one exactly, so I'll just expand a bit on each option:

    A)Football
    Only the Eagles.

    B) Soccer-aka futbol or football
Not a fan, but I did play township team in middle school

    C) Baseball
Absolutely. Anyone have guesses on who the HR King will be this season?

    D) Basketball
College b-ball. Occasionally the 76ers, as long as it's Round 4 of the NBA playoffs.

    E) Sport-wah? does surfing the web count?
    No response.

    F) Bring on the pain baby, I got my big screen tv and a 12
  • I'll have to go with G: volleyball.
  • Watch => Football;
    Play => BBall, Rowing;

  • Football. Preferably college, but the NFL will do as well.

  • Jeep Rock Crawling. Nothing like seeing a vehicle scale an almost verticle wall of rock. And some fall backwards and go BANG.

From your poll list, I would have to pick Baseball and Football and English Football.
  • Football is my second pick.

  • CowboyNeal plays sports for me, and excuses me from
    work school sports lessons.
    • FWIW, I do "power walking" (but just for fun) and
was swimming today. I think I don't do other things
      you could consider being sports.
  • You know... pool. I love 9 ball competition, but 8 ball is fine. I have never played or watched a 7 ball game (freaking war coverage preempted the one from the other day).

But of the items on your list: A) [American] Football, preferably NFL (as compared to arena league, or it's cousin XFL). However NFL Europe has its good points as well.
  • But not your wussy, American Football, where the players feel the need to wear helmets and padding to protect themselves, but real, honest to goodness, Australian Rules Football [afl.com.au]. The 2003 season kicks off this Friday night with my beloved Collingwood [collingwoodfc.com.au] playing the hapless Richmond [richmondfc.com.au] at the MCG [mcg.org.au].

If you've got the bandwidth, check out some highlights from this year's pre-season comp and last year's season. [afl.com.au]
  • A) to watch (PAC 10 college, otherwise *sigh* pro)
    D) to play - rock climbing, baby! Well, I guess it is not a sport, except when you watch the noob forget to clip in and then he falls 15 feet and his leg !BENDS! the wrong way. yikes!
  • *sigh* Wish they would show coverage of it on UK TV again...
