Journal Em Emalb's Journal: half day aka fuck I'm getting old. 13

I hope.

Got about an hour of sleep last night, sinus pressure building like a giant zit on the skin of a 17 year old short order cook.

Interesting tidbit, when I first tried to go to sleep around 11 or so, I had a mild case of heart burn. Not sure why, but there it was.

Around midnight, after an hour of laying there getting angry, the heartburn started getting really intense. Worst I'd ever had.

So I took a zantac and drank a couple glasses of water. Well, I couldn't get to sleep right away, about the time I started to drift off my bladder kicked in.

WTF? Is this some kind of bad movie? Am I in an alternate reality where 30 is old? WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Anyway, I get up and take a piss. And then again 30 minutes later. And then again an hour later. Now it's almost 2 am and I've gotta be up at 5:30, so I'm getting really angry.

I fell asleep somewhere around 2:40am, woke up at around 3:50 to piss again. WTF? I finally got back to sleep around 4:15, but the alarm went off way too soon.

I suck at life. I won't be here long today I don't think.

  • Reduce your consumption of junk/fast food(if you eat it often). Reduce bread consumption and overcooked meat. Eat more veggies and/or 1 fruit atleast with mealtimes(helps digestion and reduces heartburn). Substitute meat with fish about twice a week. Nexium reduces heartburn considerably but its side effect is walletburn. If you get heartburn intermittently, stock a few nexium pills.
    • I'm pretty certain the heartburn was from the gallon of snot draining from my sinuses.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Heartburn is rare for me, so I'm pretty sure it's related to the sinus shit I'm dealing with.
  • While it might just be heartburn, it could be an ulcer. If it comes back regularly, go to a doctor and get yourself checked out.

I know for myself, lying down in bed with heartburn is not a good idea. I've found propping myself up on a couple of pillows will help lessen the pain...

    I'm done for the week - four-day weekend here I come! 8-)
    • have a good long weekend arb.

The heartburn lessened dramatically with the couple glasses of water.

Lying flat on my back was fine, but if I rolled onto my side it got pretty intense.

I'm so fucking tired right now.

I just ranted about people coming in sick yesterday, but sadly I have a meeting I have to be here for in a couple hours.

      Sucks to be me today.

(Oh, and I'm 99% sure it isn't an ulcer. If it were, I think it would hurt more often. Not only that, but the heartburn came on the same time my sinuses star

        I always do! ;-)

Drinking water works, because it helps flush the acid which has escaped into your esoephagus.

If you've got some gum or (non-acidic) hard candy, chewing that will help relieve heartburn. Chewing promotes the production of saliva, which is alkaline and will negate the acid causing your heartburn.

    • What he said. And a change in your diet could help, too -- especially no carbonated drinks within a couple hours of bedtime and cutting back on fried food. Either way, taking Zantac regularly (or even better, Nexium -- prescription needed for the latter) can also cut down the immediate symptoms. In acute cases, Gaviscon tablets work well.*

I don't see how post-nasal drip can cause heartburn, though. I think it's just a coincidence.

      * - Shit, this feels like one of those stupid commercials that plague Amer

      • It's not really your classic post nasal drip. It's more like a constant running of clear liquid down the back of my throat.

        It's pretty vile dude.

I eat pretty good, don't drink a lot of sugary/caffeinated shit, and all that.

I'm almost positive its from the snot. But we'll wait for rdewald to come in and tell me everything I think is wrong. ;)
  • and post nasal drip irritating my throat. i'm sick of this shit. the only thing that helps is whiskey. ;)

it's good you're going to try to take a half day with all those people sick man, you don't want to really compromise your system! Hope you get some rest tonight bud.

    feel better!!!
  • when you are well enough, take a video camera to work and tape when you explode on the fuckers who were sick the other day. i'll add some batman-esque sound effects and we'll sell it online. 80-20 (you 80)?

hope you feel better. have some oj ... just 'cause it's tasty =)
  • Run a catheter out the window. No more trips to the bathroom, old man. Sheesh, what kind of geeks are you people to not come up with it?
