Journal DisownedSky's Journal: Study: Religion colors American's views of nanotechnology 5
American science education continues to fail. Apparently, our religious beliefs color our views of nanotechnology.
Did you know that if you took all the economists in the world and lined them up end to end, they'd still point in the wrong direction?

Maybe they're just being cautious. I know cloning should be outlawed because of the risk of velociraptor attacks.

From the article:
The moral qualms people of faith express about nanotechnology is not a question of ignorance of the technology, says Scheufele, explaining that survey respondents are well-informed about nanotechnology and its potential benefits.
"They still oppose it," he says. "They are rejecting it based on religious beliefs. The issue isn't about informing these people. They are informed."
The moral values of these people are not a failure of science education. And it is not wrong to introduce a moral calculus in the assessment of the uses of technology - whether the technology is nuclear weapons, nuclear power, the internal combustion engine, recombinant DNA, or nanotech. These people have the right to refuse to use such technology, if they so desire. They do not have the right to prevent others from using it, unless they can prove a concrete harm to individuals

Sure, except he didn't offer any data to show they were informed, and I'm extremely skeptical that they were.
