A Website Design & Development Project Checklist (Repost)

Posted by: Eric Key in websites, web design, marketing on Nov 19, 2008

Another great post by Shaun is this one:

A (Nearly) Bulletproof Web Design & Development Project Checklist for clients and designers.

If you're aiming to agree a fixed price for the development of the website, as we do, ensure the project goes smoothly before you start, by communicating with your client at the outset.

Journal Journal: Absolute Positioning in a CMS

Arrggghhhhh

So, my co-worker, people person in IT was contacted today about an issue in our CMS. They could not click any of the buttons or tabs in the CMS on just one Article. It worked everywhere else but the one article. My co-worker looked at it, but could not figure it out, so he passed it on to me.

So I logged in to look at it. Weird. Very very weird.

First Beta of Opera 10 Released 278

Miladinoski writes "Opera Software ASA today released the first beta of their tenth version of the Opera browser. In addition to the browser's known features, like mouse gestures, keyboard shortcuts, voice navigation, mail and RSS support, speed dial and so forth, it now includes a Turbo mode which unclogs your connection to get faster browsing, a new interface, a tabbed browsing update and customizable speed dial. Opera 10 continues to follow the web standards by getting 100/100 and pixel-perfect scores on the Acid3 test. The beta is currently available for every modern OS platform."

Microsoft Confirms October 22 Release Date For Windows 7 182

techwrench was one of several readers to send word that Microsoft has officially announced Windows 7 will be generally available on October 22nd. They also mentioned the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program: "This program enables participating retailers and OEMs to offer a special deal to upgrade to Windows 7 for customers purchasing a qualifying PC. I'll be doing another blog post about this program with a date and more details when we get closer to availability. Obviously, Release To Manufacturing (RTM) is an important milestone on the path to GA. We anticipate that we'll be able to make the RTM code for Windows 7 available to our partners sometime in the 2nd half of July. We also expect to be able to make RTM code for Windows Server 2008 R2 available to our partners in this time frame as well."

Journal Journal: Conversion Queen 2

My boss called me the Conversion Queen.. and then promptly gave me 3 more conversions.. LOL

Ah well... kinda cool in a way. Good thing I love playing with Databases.. *grin*

I finished the Herb Companion conversion. It went fairly smoothly. Grit is supposed to be next, but they haven't gotten me the data to convert yet!

In between, I've been working on a contest page, forums, event registrations and various errors that have popped up.

Comment Re:Firefox! (Score 1) 480

A large part of the problem here is that this isn't a simple 1->2->3 progression. There are days when I can use firefox all day and have it be snappy and only use about 100MB active with about 500MB in virtual memory.

There are other days, however, when Firefox uses 700MB of active memory and nearly 2.5GB of virtual space. Now, this is the result of 2-5 days worth of browsing. How in your right mind do you expect me to keep track of every click that I made over 5 days so that you can file a bug report? Do you have a keytrapper and site visitation storage engine that keeps up every image, flash video and html of the site? After all, it could be any of that. I don't mind trying to help out, and I'm sure a large portion of the FF community doesn't either, but we've gone beyond what the end users can do to help you with this issue, percieved or real, and it's now in your hands to be the developer and QA this to find out what is going on.

Journal Journal: Existance of life != Water - Methane - Ozone 1

Why is it so important for certain chemicals to be present in order to discover "life"? I know Water is required for human existence, but why do scientists limit their searches for life on the foundation that all life must be carbon-based?

I mean, you always hear things such as:
