My wife is a teacher. As soon a there were talks about possibly closing the schools due to coronavirus... there were tons and tons of people shrieking and sending angry emails of "If you're not going to keep my kid all day you better tell me where to get the government check of at least $800 a week for keeping my kid at home!!!!!!!!!"

In the UK they have had to keep the free school meals going for children not going to school because otherwise their parents couldn't afford to feed them properly.

As far as I know, most schools in America are doing this too. Or at least tons of ones I've seen. I guess I can't speak for all 50 states, though.

I think it was posted here because many Slashdotters will get in to a big fight over Brexit for no reason.

But yeah. I don't see any legitimate reason to post this article. Maybe next we should post about a celebrity getting it, and how they are sitting on a $1,000,000 couch while waiting to recover?

Yeah, I saw it too. I thought he had just heard the words and said what he heard. I don't think he understood.... but I also don't think he was saying she had physically scrubbed the emails away with liquid bleach, but that seemed to be the Snopes reaction.

I just thought it super weird because they normally seemed to research and look through thins when discussing legends or fake stuff online..... whereas this was just "no she did not clean her computer with bleach that wouldn't' delete emails!". I don't remember exactly what it was, just that it was incredibly stupid and made no sense that it was part of their fact checking to prove his lying.

My favorite Snopes moment was the Trump and Hillary debate where they said something like: "Trump stated Hillary Acid Washed the computer. False: Wiping the computer with bleach would not delete the emails." Or whatever it was. I remember reading it at work and going "What the fuck?" out loud. I'd only really seen them for smaller things before mostly.

My wife is a teacher and has been telling me how everyone is saying stuff about how nothing should be graded OR REQUIRED and that the students should just get passed. They say the students are not all in the same equal environment, so it's an equity issue and they should not be affected by it.

So since some kids may be in a less good position.... No one should learn because it would be unfair to those who might learn less? Great future we have coming. Then again everything in school is looking more and more fucking awful every day from what I've been hearing. The IEP shit is going to ruin everyone from being able to survive in the real world. Stuff like "He has trouble focusing so he shouldn't be allowed to test with more than 6 students around," and such.
