I just laugh at these clowns predicting climate disasters because their models have all been wrong. Not just by a little, but by a lot. No connection to reality.

If it wasn't for the dangerous politicians who leverage the hysteria for political and monetary gain, I would ignore them completely.

Ten years ago I talked to my son's high school math teacher and she said the Common Core curriculum was dumbing down students' math. She said colleges were complaining that they now have to require students to do remedial math upon entering college because Common Core is so bad. I had looked at my son's math over that year and figured Common Core math covers lots of material so shallow that it's quickly forgotten and no one gets mastery over any of it.

Homeschoolers complained about Common Core when it first came out but no one listened. Homeschoolers have been showing up at college better prepared than anyone else for years.

Since when did Slashdot become the Democrat party's propaganda tool? I'm less likely to hang around here anymore. It's become bitter, vindictive, and no better than listening to MSNBC.

Having schools start later would be fine under the 1950s nuclear family when Mom could just shift when she dropped off and picked up the kids. Now we both parents work and have everything timed so they can drop off the kids on the way to work. Shifting only the schools' start time would cause a major headache.

Didn't Outlook used to do a preview as well? You would think M$ would learn. I guess not.

This is one of many reasons I try hard to stay away from all M$ products. I used to like them many years ago, but being stabbed in the back and slapped in the face many times has taught me not to trust them with anything. >:^(

Comment 1 US engineer = 3 remote Indian engineers (Score 1) 231

I saw this personally. US engineers get laid off and multiple remote Indian engineers replace each one. One of the problems the companies do not see is that the remote Indian engineers are junior. Once they get enough experience they get hired by another company and leave the project. The turnover is devastating.

As a code monkey working in several publicly traded companies, a 6 month reporting cycle is wonderful. The current 3 month reporting slows down development. Every 3 months we'd get a 1-2 week code freeze leading up to the quarterly shareholder call. That's disrupting. Non-public companies don't have this problem.
