Comment Scaled down photos (Score 5, Insightful) 262

I've never used Facebook for any pro photos or photos that demand a level of detail to appreciate them. Facebook blows for displaying photos anyway because of the sheer fact that your photos are scaled down to a disgusting quality that's not even good enough to use for print. I can understand why the do this (!!!) but it's such a shame because facebook is a wonderful delivery mechanism of information and media.
Use Picasa, it's not made by a wannabe evil, world dominating organisation.

I'd argue that greater openness isn't what we should be striving to achieve. Openness stunts development because no one is trying to one-up each other and that having private, closed environments can be healthy in the development of new technologies.

If America and the USSR had open space programmes, do you think they'd still be assing around trying to get to the moon right now?

Is there any doubt that the Australian Government were locked in because of volume licenses and their user base familiarity to the Microsoft product anyway?

Is this really such a big issue? Microsoft isn't the personification of the devil, they're a business who are good at doing business. A little less tall poppy syndrome is in order.

Massive props to the major ISP's in Australia for standing up and showing the Government with action, what is the best course of action for Australia and it's citizens.

It's really disappointing listening to the arguments from the Labor government as to why Australia needs an internet filter. Tugging on the heart strings of the parents promising to "help protect their children" with a defunct solution.

I congratulate every Australian working hard to petition and protest about their rights and what is good for Australia. The people have spoken.

Australia Waters Down, Delays Internet Filter Policy 122

An anonymous reader writes "Looks like Australia's government is running a bit scared of a population enraged by its controversial mandatory filtering project. The Government today announced a suite of measures designed to provide controls around the filter project, including independent oversight and a review of content which would be included. In addition, some Australian ISPs will voluntarily censor any child pornography URLs. But the whole project is still going ahead — it's just been delayed and slightly modified."

Sony To Launch First 3D PS3 Games On Friday 151

Stoobalou writes "Sony plans to show off the first 3D PlayStation 3 games in the UK on 10 June, with a retail launch on 11 June. If you were wondering why Sony is shutting down half the PSN today for maintenance, then wonder no more. We reckon the company's simply gearing up for the launch of the PlayStation 3's first stereoscopic 3D games. Unfortunately, many game developers are seemingly indifferent to the 3D revolution at the moment. In fact, EA CEO John Riccitiello reckons that it's going to be a good three years before 3D becomes a standard gaming feature. Riccitiello explained that there's a big difference between converting a game to run in 3D mode and properly developing it to take full advantage of the extra dimension."

iPad Bait and Switch — No More Unlimited Data Plan 670

_KiTA_ writes "AT&T announced today that the iPhone will gain tethering, finally, at an extra $20 a month, but only for people on a new 2GB a month plan. They also quietly announced at the same time the real news — that the $30 Unlimited Data plan on the iPad 3G will be axed in lieu of the same data plan. Yes, this would be the same 'revolutionary data plan' that Steve Jobs was so proud of during the iPad unveiling — it lasted just a month after the 3G model was delayed to May 7. People feeling vibes of previous Apple iDevice releases are not alone. Existing accounts will be allowed to grandfather in, although Apple has removed the ability to purchase the iPad from the online store at this time, and AT&T has a history of changing its plans without warning. Finally, there is no word on what happens if you ever let your Unlimited plan lapse for a month at this time."

So, I am sitting here at work, with a can of Diet Coke and a packet of mentos. Mentos Diet coke /Looks around, quickly drinks diet coke and swallows mentos hehe I remember when I was younger, my brother and I would collect some empty softdrink bottles, put a bit of water in them, connect them to an air compressor and shoot them into the air. The reverse (shooting liquid into the air) looks like just as much fun.
