Submission + - Is there a laptop out there that takes 18650s? 2

ClarkMills writes: Present laptop dying, battery of course. Uses proprietary pouch Lithium cells. Wouldn't it be great to just swap in a new set of 18650s? Ok, may not be a thin laptop but it would save me from turfing a perfectly good laptop otherwise...

Submission + - Tesla battery researcher unveils new cell that could last 1 million miles (electrek.co)

ClarkMills writes: Not just anybody but Jeff Dahn released a paper detailing cells that should be able to power an electric vehicle for over 1.6 million kilometers (1 million miles) and last at least two decades in grid energy storage. Good news and the Maxwell acquisition isn't even factored into this equation so there's all sorts of goodies lined up for EVs (Teslas initially obviously).

Submission + - Some Electronic Power Meters over-meter by nearly 6x (utwente.nl)

ClarkMills writes: A study carried out by the University of Twente (UT), in collaboration with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). Professor Frank Leferink of the UT estimates that potentially inaccurate meters have been installed in the meter cabinets of at least 750,000 Dutch households.
