In a free market, your salary is proportional to how hard it is to replace you:

Know where to place the the thousand dollar chalk mark? Mid six figures easy.

So what do H1Bs at Microsoft make?

Stupidly small sample size.

AI agents do not inherently have a gender. Forcing them to pretend to have a gender is both stupid and useless. Stop genderizing things that will never have a gender.

I'm not sure when they did the actual work vs how long it took them to finish the write-up and get published, however, I noticed the model they used was gpt-4-1106-preview. A preview version GPT-4 Turbo. From 3 years ago. For one, I would never base my research on a preview of something that hasn't been finished or finalized even if the preview model is released to the general public. It's a build for testing, not production or research. Secondly, they only offered one male and one female option. The outcomes do not and cannot equate to a broader gender preferences/biases. Maybe their default female settings were subtly more annoying to look at or listen to than the male's. We don't know because the participants only had a binary choice between the genders. Overall, there are a lot of factors that they are not controlling for and are otherwise making assumptions. Personally, I looked at the picture of the two gendered agents and I thought they both looked awful, but the women looked worse - her face looked bad and clothes didn't even slightly match, which I thought was weird, I know what Reallusion can produce and these character models just look awful.

So, overall, I call this study a complete fail. Redo it with better tools, better controls, and someone that actually knows how to do character design.

Crack open a history book, start with the 1947 Shubaki family assassination by Zionist paramilitary. And then work your way forward through the back and forth reprisals, the UN Partition Plan for Palestine, and the 1947-1948 civil war in Mandatory Palestine.

Once you're caught up, reread your diatribe on Hamas. It is okay to be naive and have myoptic opinions initially, as long as you can also grow and learn.

Yeah that changes the context somewhat. There's a difference between "We should remove the bi-annual time change, it's unhealthy" (which I agree with and would like to happen) and the wishful thinking "WhAt iF iT wAs SuMmEr aLl yEaR rOuNd" crap that seems beloved of legislators and others who sort of agree that the bi-annual time changes need to go, but have the worst idea of how to implement it.

This paper isn't advocating for keeping bi-annual time changes. It's advocating for standard time. And I agree standard time is probably a better approach, even if some people get butt hurt about the idea of it not still being light at 9pm in the middle of August.

It all depends on who you are optimizing for.

  • Parents with kids would do better on standard time, because they have to take their kids to school before work.
  • Everyone else with a 9-to-5 job may do better on DST, assuming a short commute distance, because sunrise at 7:20 instead of 8:20 just adds useless time before the morning commute, while sundown at 5:53 means driving home before dark.

There is no one correct answer, because which one fits your circadian rhythms better depends entirely on what time you wake up.
