From what I remember it was $6/hour for 300 baud and $12/hour for 1200 baud. This post about their old game Island of Kesmai seems to confirm. Still very expensive for the time.

From my experience, Google routing completely falls apart when things get too busy. I'd be a bit concerned what would happen to the lights with real time adjustments.

Yea wired has worked for 13+ years over several phones. Agree that it appearing as a real drive would be nicer, but I had always considered that as something which needed to be fixed on the phone side.

While advertising is no small part of it, one must also mention that search engines require lots of searches to gather good statistics to provide the best results.

Bing does a pretty poor job even finding things on Microsoft's own web pages, while Google gets me to what I want almost always on the first try.

Google does searching well because lots of people use it and the money keeps that in place also.

The quick loading static images and animations (from the Intellicast days) might not survive this. The complex WUNDERMAP is so ungainly most of the time.

With potentially large quantities of data being send to the cloud for processing, this does seem like a gold mine for data mining (or exploits).

Both depend on the quality of the translation and VA work. I've seen plenty of subs that are very stilted (excluding machine translated). They get the point across but would be strange with real VA's reading them. Quality dubs tend to have a more refined translation because someone is actually speaking the lines (and can give additional feedback).

If you remove all the tracking data from the URL. Usually everything from the "?" and beyond can be removed and the URL will still work. Though many sites run URL clicks through a redirector so it's more difficult to get the real URL from those.

This will be used to make those "Your machine is infected" ads look even better for non-tech people to fall for. Anything browser related should be clearly in the browser!

While I'm impatiently waiting until the 16TB drives are released so the 12TB prices will come down to reasonable levels.

They need to add a non-minimalistic mode. I have no problem with minimalism as a heavy user, but from my experience light users prefer a more traditional interface where everything isn't hidden. Firefox allows you can turn the menus back on so that takes care of many of the problems.

I never recommend Chrome to my low tech friends (or parents) for this reason.
