You need humans to envision that next new thing. AI would have no idea we want a better way to compost household organics, or a lighter more aerodynamic bicycle... so humans still run it. And also, how many to make? 1 or 100,000? And where to get the materials? I mean there are just way too many things to get from iron ore to delivered product that need humans.

But let me know when it is ready, I have a lot of old plumbing in my 75 yo place to be fixed, and retro computers I want to get working again. Probably a long wait.

There's tons of cheap, decent laptops on eBay, not too old. Buyer has to know what they are doing, they all need a cleaning, and Linux would "have to do".

More grassroots, workplaces replace their laptops and usually toss very good used ones all the time. (Speaking from experience). Do some calling around and you may find yourself sitting on a stack of 100 of them very quickly.

I like the idea of phone as computer, everyone seems to shell out for phones and they are quite powerful. Peripheral-izing them could be costly tho.
