As of yet here is no evidence that hard AI is even possible.

Why would you think it is "impossible"? I don't see any scientific or ultimate technical limitation that would rule it out. It is a matter of time, just how much time is the only real question.

I can remember having a conversation with my brother about this new-fangled format, and telling him that I thought people might be willing to pay up to $1 a song. He convinced me that the idea was ridiculous, that nobody would pay for what they could steal, and if they were so stupid they wouldn't know what to do with it anyway.

Can't say how this service works, but I have noticed that "ad supported" content on Tubi contains way LESS ads than cable. An episode of Most Extreme Elimination Challenge takes about 22 minutes to watch, because Tubi inserts only 2-3 minutes of ads instead of the 10 minutes that Spike TV originally inserted. That is "survivable" to me, even though, as you say, the commercials are repititious. And although I have noticed awkward placement of commercials on some services, Tubi at least tries to pick a reasonable spot to place them.
