For the same reason 85% of customers are now demanding that restaurants put tamper-evident stickers on food delivered by food delivery services (grubhub, etc.) after 24% of the drivers admitted to sampling the food on the way. Why is it the restaurants' responsibility, especially if grubhub is taking 30% of the price? If grubhub hires crappy drivers they should pay that price.

You are absolutely correct. The Internet has become an oppressive monolith. Everywhere you look there is oppression and fear. Apple, Google, Facebook, Micro$oft, Atlassian, Samsung, and all the other tech companies are all utterly corrupt. There are no good guys. You have to assume that everything is trying to steal from you, surveil you, sell you, or get you to buy something. You can't trust anything online. The good old days of the Internet being an exciting frontier are long over.

Comment it's not always the job (Score 1) 274

The CTO at the last company I was at committed suicide recently. He was a late-50's or early 60's gruff ex-marine and had a very intimidating presence. However, he apparently had a lot of health problems that are what eventually led to the suicide. So it was likely just a coincidence that he worked in technology.
