Oh, I was just addressing their skepticism about cold weather being more deadly. I did not address anything but that.
That's horrible. We have a number of chimney fires every year, which can be pretty deadly. You also have people who try to heat their homes with a propane stove when the power goes out (which it does often). It's a damned shame but I don't have a solution to it outside of my local area.
We have no local fire department (unincorporated township) but the nearby village has a program where they come and clean chimneys for free (accepting a donation if you're able). I also cut more firewood than I need to. I share that with those people with less and those who are aged. That's only viable for a small group of people who are already funding most of their own heating needs.
As we're more remote, we're better prepared for long power outages and needing a backup heat source that's reasonably safe to use. Accidents (and bad decisions) still happen. I'm not really impacted when mains power goes out, but many people aren't in that position. When it's down below freezing inside your house, it's tempting to try to heat it any way you can. Given what we know about climate change, larger and more powerful storms are only going to become more common.
Yeah, they're adding $50k (or *MORE*) as 'dealer adjustments' for the new ZR1.
I actually want one, but I refuse to pay more than the sticker price. I'll happily pay that, adjusted for my options, without any haggling or debate. I'll even put it all on a credit card so that it's the same as cash. If they wait a few days, I'll bring them cash - or even go get them a cashier's check that very day.
I refuse to pay more than the MSRP. I will not do it, regardless of the desirability.
That said, I do have an acquaintance that owns a dealership. They're a few hours away, but I should give them a call or email them.
I'm reminded of the Tesla Cybertruck. They were selling at more than sticker when they came out. Then, against the claimed rules, the first person auctioned one off and it was sold for around $200,000. A couple more sold for more before the hype started to die down. Now, a new Cybertruck is like $80,000 and you can buy an almost-new Cybertruck for about $60,000.
I will not take part in that, no matter how much I want to own the vehicle.
Yeah, even back in the 90s it was confusing - and that was just a few hundred seats and a handful of servers.
I suspect it's just as confusing today if you want to be completely sure you're in compliance.
Those jobs aren't coming back, not even with the tariffs. On top of it, automation has eliminated many of those roles in the process.
No... You're just going to pay more for the things you buy. Sure, a few companies will do some production here, enough to qualify as lip-service and maybe to get some favorable tax relief. But, you'll still be buying goods made in Asia for a long time to come. You might see some stuff 'assembled in the USA', which will make some people feel like something was accomplished.
Frankly, I'd rather deal with the tariffs. One of the great things about importing all that stuff is that we're leaving much of the environmental costs behind. Manufacturing is fairly dirty, generally speaking.
Also, we already manufacture a ton of stuff. I'm not sure why, but people seem to not know this. Here's some date that looks to be accurate:

It's a smaller percentage of our GDP than it once was, but we make all sorts of stuff - increasingly so. While it looks scary on the GDP part, it's actually not a huge percentage of our GDP in the first place. Our GDP is doing just fine. We're just making our money in other ways, as an enlightened country should.
Nobody wants to work in manufacturing, unless they're desperate. Goods can be made cheaper elsewhere and allows us to externalize some additional costs such as the waste products from getting the resources and processing the resources.
You can't compete with a robot. Shit, even China is now outsourcing to cheaper countries. They now have a middle-class and people are wanting higher wages. That's okay. Let's let Indonesia (for example) catch up and earn their own developing middle-class.
I'm not accusing you, but I swear half of the people in favor of this silliness are just finally voicing that they're upset that darker-skinned people are making a living. They don't want the jobs to come back. They just don't want middle-class non-white people.
Again, that''s not an accusation against you. You didn't write enough for me to reach any conclusions about that aspect.

I am mildly disappointed.
It has been a while, but I used to do reviews for a couple of journals, all in the Applied Mathematics field. I never worried about anonymity. It'd be trivial for them to figure out that it's me (with enough information). There really weren't that many papers being published and there was a smaller set of people willing to review the papers.
The new Cadillac Escalade (the EV version) is huge and weighs just a bit under 10,000 pounds.
Sure, it's an EV but there are other externalities to consider. Just because it's an EV doesn't mean that it shouldn't also be efficient in its use of energy.
I came up with this:

So, yeah... Cold kills more people by a statistically significant amount.
I live in a fairly cold area of the world. We have cold-related deaths every year. We also don't tend to get so hot as to kill anybody other than the infirm. At least not often. We have had larger heat waves but they're far from the temperatures you'd expect in the southern part of the US.
People burn their house down trying to heat it. That's fairly common.
https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FFB5C_p6p_Do%3Fsi%3DogITM1lCsDi_Dxk2 is an interesting counter-argument.
Tracked? Mossad isn't interesting in tracking, they're interested in explosions.
Would you people stop playing these stupid games?!?!?!!!!
