Comment Alfresco Enterprise, Workdesk, and Cloud. (Score 1) 274

You are stating that you need a secure data solution under ITAR, keeping your cloud based data within the USA. Alfresco Enterprise http://www.alfresco.com/ would be a solution, since you can limit what data is being handled by your users via the web, mobile or PC via role based management using Alfresco Share. Developer tools for Alfresco allows you create custom plugins, if one does not exist at the moment, have your developer team create a custom plugin to meet those requirements (say, ITAR??). And it works with either Windows or Linux. Data inside your firewall is kept secure on both sides of the firewall. Will probably catch hell for even suggesting this for your organization.

complaining about not having a full sized USB port? Check the Archos G9 80 and 101 Turbo series tablets that have full sized USB ports/3G modem functionality. Stuck a 32GB flash drive into the back of it and it worked just fine. The hardware might not be the best but it does the job. in addition, add a 32gb microSD card also. along with the 8gb internal storage capacity it has on board.

Submission + - Monty wants to save MySQL (helpmysql.org)

An anonymous reader writes: It seems as if the MySQL author is trying hard to win back control over MySQL. In his blog he calls upon the MySQL users to "Help keep the Internet free" by signing his petition. He fears that if Oracle buys Sun they automatically get MySQL which would spell doom for the project. But I have have mixed feelings with this call for help because after all; who sold MySQL in the first place?

Comment I have fond memories of Opus... (Score 2, Insightful) 218

I don't know about the rest of you Slashdotters, but I have fond memories of reading the newspaper every day to see what kind of mischief Opus and the gang in Bloom County were going to do next, such as putting Bill Gates brain inside of Bill the Cat...and Opus getting a nose job. But the best one was the first time we all met him...encountering a Hare Krishna....with the "Pear Pimples for Hairy Fishnuts" reply. Go back in time. Remember a time when politcal humor was meant to be funny and not crass and callous as it is today with people like Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart. Berke Breathed poked fun at situations, he didn't rattle the bear's cage all the time. And as for his children's books, he has made a couple of cute ones, such as "Red Rider Came Calling" and "The Last Bassalope" and one of my personal faves, "Edward Fudwupper Fibbed Big", a story about one child's lie that can cause big trouble. So its sad to see Opus go. He can have a Herrring Whopper on me, heavy mayo :)
