Howdy All,

I just wanted to give a quick adios-type message. I started my new job at SpaceX about a month ago and am still getting settled in my new home/lifestyle. One thing that is apparent, however, is that working at SpaceX is going to keep me hopping. I've spent a couple weeks working more than 60 hours already, and I think that may be somewhat common. That said, I don't really have time to keep up on news stories as much as I have for the last three years.

So I am posting this mostly to say thanks to all of those who made visiting Slashdot so fun and informative. I will still visit from time to time, mostly looking for space stories probably.

Good luck to you all in your endeavors, whatever they may be. Please feel free to stalk me on G+ or FB (I know ZOMG privacy!!!!!!!) And, as always, you can lurk on my website (though that will not be updated as often either probably.

So, about a week ago, Slashdot had two stories up regarding what I consider to be a very historic test flight performed by SpaceX. I was so giddy regarding this particular launch, in fact, that I took some time to blog about it on my website.

The specific entry can be found here. It offers some commentary and analysis regarding Falcon 9, the Dragon spacecraft, and SpaceX as a company and their potential impact they will all have on the current space industry landscape. This is my first journal entry and I just want to post it as a resource of information for anyone interested. About a week ago I posted a personal anecdote about a data aggregation company that my auto insurance company worked with in order to determine insurance rates for their customers. The whole story can be found in my comment here. As part of that story, I promised to follow it up with the name of the company and a link to their website if possible, so that other folks could contact them to opt out of their data aggregation services.

Well the company was, at the time, called ChoicePoint. However, they have since been bought by a company called LexisNexis and can now be found as LexisNexis Risk Solutions. The website has changed since my last visit there, but there is probably a contact info. or opt-out request form buried somewhere on their site. I encourage anyone that is concerned about their privacy to opt-out of this company's data aggregation services because they have gathered data on me in the past that was false in nature and, thus, was costing me money with my insurance company. By opting out of this company's service, you limit the resources that insurance companies can use to gather information on you. It is my personal belief that insurance companies should be required to gather data for you from your official public records only (such as DMV or court records). However, this is not currently encoded in law and, thus, customers must take it upon themselves to ensure that accurate, correct, and up-to-date information of their character is being used.
