Comment The real enemy for OpenAI and Nvidia is TPUs (Score 1) 133

Since GPT2.0 the cost of tokens has dropped by 99.9% - A verifiable number that blows away Moore's law for computing. Nvidia depends on AI companies to buy GPUs. OpenAI and friends received funding rounds based on anticipated profits that were calculated from what they could charge for tokens. Google has driven the cost of tokens down using the custom silicon they have developed in-house in 2014, the TPU. In 2025 alone, Google pushed prices down another 78%. This massive hardware efficiency allows Google to launch models like Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, pricing input tokens as low as $0.10 to $0.30 per 1 Million tokens, forcing OpenAI and Anthropic to consistently cut their own model prices to remain competitive. The problem for OpenAI is that they are losing money while Google is making a profits.

By selling fear, OpenAI and friends get excuses to give investors on why their profits have not materialized as promised. Meanwhile, Google will continue to drink everyone's milkshake by pursuing a free-market based Netscape vs IE strategy of driving the price of tokens to zero. Eventually, Nvidia will have to refocus on making GPUs for our gaming PCs.

AI guardrails solve one problem and create another.

Imagine two people are fighting for the world boxing championship - one person is required to fight with an arm tied behind their back and heavily padded gloves while the other person uses performance enhancing drugs and brass knuckles. This is the AI safety debate as seen by governments, and the results and outcomes are pretty clear.

No one should doubt that the future of warfare will be AI led drone swarms, infrastructure attacks, hacking, tasking orders, and targeting. The countries with the most strict guardrails will almost certainly lose, excluding any other significantly deciding factors. This is reality, not opinion. It is the prisoner's dilemma for AI usage.

Michele Spagnuolo was clearly well aware his actions were criminal, as the court document details his efforts to hide identity and obscure the financial transactions through use of ethereum, USDC, and crypto-swapping services, as well as deleting accounts after online speculation that the gains were the result of insider activity.

We all appreciate a free press, but free press is not the same as a press that is party to a crime by receiving and publishing illegally obtained material.

The real problem, however, is when the press claims to have obtained inside info and publishes inflammatory articles with the intent to influence policy and elections and that information is later proven to be false. Just a few examples are Dan Rather reporting military records on Bush (fake), Clinton funding (fake) intel dossier on Trump, Wikileaks publishing (fake/edited) videos and declaring a military "slaughter" of civilians. This type of reporting does serious harm to our democracy - and speech that causes harm is not always protected.

Google has been the leader in ML/AI before OpenAI even existed. Microsoft and OpenAI were bedfellows early on with the specific intent of embedding AI into Microsoft projects. Then OpenAI screwed over Microsoft.
