I'm currently in a calorie deficit of about 1000 kcal a day and on a plant-based diet, and I have no issues getting 1.6 g/kg of body weight just in my standard meals with no supplements.
I am, however very active, with an estimated calorie output of about 3000 kcal
People really need to be focusing on fibre more than protein, because it has a solid track record for improving health, and it's also very satiating. Which is why protein from plant foods is great, they tend to come packed with a lot of fibre too.
