I have been into stuff being online since before there was widespread online to be on, but I have always been into it being based on open standards, as well as open source since that's been available. I went ahead and got a Google TV since we were already exclusively watching TV on a Google TV device (First a basic Fire Stick, then when they ruined that with updates, Nvidia shield tube) and even that is irritating sometimes even given that the convergence makes sense. I don't need any of my home appliances to have any features which require that I involve the internet. I do have one device which has "inherently" internet-based functionality, it's a weather station and it uploads to wunderground. But if I wanted that data for just myself, there is a proxy for that.

If you want to use all solar, you need storage. If you don't, then you don't. Most power is consumed while the sun is shining, or would be if there weren't clouds. As I said in my prior comment here, if you are expecting to use both legacy and solar power then you do not need storage. I expect slashdotters to be able to process if..then statements.

The argument over whether you can use all solar is a different argument than I was addressing, so I'm not going have it in this thread now.

At some point you have to go to the algorithmic feed if you want to find new stuff outside of your current bubble, so Bsky was never non-algorithmic. Feceboot allows you to show all posts by favorites, friends, or subscribed groups or pages, although it doesn't exactly make this easy to find. I use a specific address when I go there to get this functionality. It even works on mobile! (In older times, their app copied everyone's contacts and then deleted them so you're a schmuck if you trust their app on your device.)

Also Bsky has had a pretty pathetic bug as long as I've been using it where uploaded images and also the thumbnailed images for links just show up as all black. This does not happen on any other site. It does not always happen on Bsky. It seems to be worse on some days than others. I can post two images in a row, both the same file type, and one will work right and one won't. I just don't bother posting images there any more due to the high chances that they won't be viewable.

Every watt solar panels produce is a watt that doesn't have to be produced with some more expensive source. Therefore even if literally the only thing you do is supplement other plants with solar arrays and shut or ramp them down when the sun is shining, you're still going to improve cost and efficiency. This is true even if you use no storage at all because solar panels and inverters are so cheap now. You think solar panels have come down in prices? Look at inverters. Grid tie models with 3000+kW (sustained, not surge) are down around $500 now and no doubt significantly cheaper in quantity.

If you actually want to do some math, then you can figure out given expected solar availability how much storage it makes sense to buy given that it will allow you to size down your other facilities by some amount. But you do not need storage to be able to make use of solar power if you are using parallel generation methods as you say is necessary. If that is in fact necessary, then you do not need any storage since you'll have those other generation sources available to you to use when the sun is not shining. Your own argument is self-contradictory and you should have thought about it more before spreading FUD.
