If you're going to spend 30000 hours typing then surely it's worth some investment: to speed it up a bit, make fewer mkstakes, be more comfortable, avoid RSI.

Touch typing is only one thing you could do. If you will type a lot then I recommend trying different mechanical kryboards and layouts until you find what works best for you.

I use a keyboardio 100 with an Apple Magic Trackpad between the two halves instead of a mouse. While coding, the transition to the trackpad is quicker and easier on the wrist than a mouse would be.

In terms of layout, I think my top two features are home row mods and chording for symbols and arrows. I don't think it really adds speed but for comfort and RSI prevention I think minimizing finger reaches and wrist moves is important.

No lighting beats bad lighting ... but have you tried good lighting? What you want is that the light level behind your screen matches the light level of the screen.

I light my home office with three bright LED lamps of the type used by streamers, directly behind my screen. Works well for me. And it's perfect for video calls :)

Writing English is the same, by the way: if someone can write 1000 words per day they are very productive, but they can probably type 60 words per minute. The words / sentences are easy, it's the pages/chapters that are hard :)

How fast can a developer type, and how much code do they produce per day. QED.

I've worked on internal developer tooling at a large company and so had access to lots of data--you have to know how much people are using the tooling to know how much you can gain by improving it. So, I know what I'm talking about :) but no citations possible, sorry.

Generating code is not at all the limiting factor. Developers do not spend even 20% of their time typing new code.

So, good luck with that.
