My real name is Devin Torres, but my online handle is sometimes "Xeon." Xeon evolved from a name I used when I played on MUDs (Multi-User Dungeons), not from Intel's "flagship" microprocessor. I got my first computer when I was 12. It was an old Pentium with Windows 95. I was ecstatic over it, and my dad signed me up with dial-up Internet access with NetZero. I quickly opened telnet on the machine and started playing a MUD a friend of mine had introduced me to. Instantly, I fell in love with computers, but realized quite horribly that NetZero only allowed 100 hours a month of use before they didn't allow you to connect. I was infuriated, but waited a month to get back on. I immediately tried to figure out if I could play the MUD without connecting to the Internet. I was given advice from a MUD administrator that I could download a program called "Cygwin" and use it to "compile" the MUD on Windows. I finally got it to work. Needless to say, that was only the beginning.
