Journal Journal: Open Source: Software vs Development
Save flames until the end, please.
I had the realisation lately that I am not really an advocate of open-source software. Not indiscriminately so, anyway. Software isn't inherently any better just because it happens to be open-source.
However, I do believe the open-source development model is superior. There's a difference.
There's some OSS that I do enjoy. For instance, I'm likely to continue using FreeBSD for some time. But if a closed-source program is available to me that works better for me than the open-source equivalents, well, yeah, I'll use what works. Until such time as open-source catches up and surpasses closed-source, at which point "use what works" comes into play again.
