Journal Journal: Being sick sucks

Today was the first real sick day I've had in quite awhile. Yeah, I did the "I'm sick of work, hence I'm sick" deal before. But today was spent sleeping, sucking down meds, sleeping some more, clearing out the sinuses, and having fun swallowing stuff.

Bleh, I hope in the morning I'll feel even better than I do right now...

Journal Journal: Something Unexpected

Heh, I never quite expected Trolls to show up and post in my little journal. Must be more popular that I expected...either that or a perfect target... *sigh*

Journal Journal: *sigh* 4

Yet another week at the customer site. I was soo looking forward to heading out to New Jersey to help with the Disaster Relief Effort. At least then I'd be doing something. Most of my friends wonder why I'm complaining.

Yeah, I have it really cushy right now. I wander into the customer site around 9 am or so, wander out before 5, and pretty much surf the net all day. It was nice for a couple of months, but wow does it get old. Honestly I'd rather be sitting at home working on re-designing my own web site, or setting up my firewall for my DSL connection, or something a tad more constructive with my time. I guess what I'm really getting at is that I rather not be totally in a rut. I like stability, but I also like where tommorow will be different than yesterday. That was one thing I sorta had at my old job. Who knew if the HP system would break today or not. What user would come to me and complain about something about their windows box crashing, and of course I'd pass them off to the NT admin. I didn't have the rights to begin with, and of course compounded by lack of caring, and also by being overworked as it was as a UNIX admin and DBA. Bleh.

At least this Friday will be interesting, as I get to head up to Ann Arbor and take part one of my Solaris Certification exam. Heh, I never thought I'd hear myself say that taking an exam would be interesting... It's weird how "growing up" affects your thought patterns and your dislikes/likes.

Journal Journal: What has happened to /.?

I don't know, but there used to be a time where new products from various computer companies were pasted to /.'s main page. And there used to be a high regard to technology also. It seems as if /. has become a personal soapbox for Jon Katz, and stuff that was posted eons ago. It hardly stands up anymore as "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters." Instead we're treated with more news about the World Trade Center tradegy, and more of Katz's writting.

Anyway, what started this rant was the rejection of information on Sun's new "StarCat" server, the E15k. 1/2TB of memory, 250TB of storage (tested with), 106 processors. Personally I'd say that qualifies as "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters." *shrug*

Journal Journal: One of those days...

Ever have one of those days where ya don't want to be at work. I suppose everyone has. I'm sitting here at a customer site wondering why I'm still here...there isn't anyone on this floor other than the secretary. And I can't concentrate enough to fill out paperwork that I need to for work.

So, I'm hanging out here on slashdot, and it's a slow news days also. *bleh* If nothing else waiting for "quitting time" so I can depart and begin the holiday weekend...

Journal Journal: Ramblings.... 2

Well life has definatley been interesting. I really enjoy my new job with Sun Microsystems. It's soo cool to get to play with the high end servers and new technology. The other thing that I really love is that people ask my opinion and then actually listen to it. Training has been great, thus far I've been sent to more training than my old job sent me to in 5 years!

Heck even this morning I got an e-mail from an old HS bud. I haven't heard from her in forever, but she'll be a nurse soon. That's just soo kewl. She's about the only thing from my boring primary and secondary school existence that I care to keep in touch with. Of course I'm the type of person that would just assume to skip class reunions. In fact I did. I skipped the 5 year one, it sounded so lame. I mean it was mostly a bunch of people I could care less about hanging out in a bar back home, or I could go to Chicago with my girlfriend at the time and our friends... So ya know what I did.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't look down on those days/people so much, if at all. There may have been people that cared about me. I kinda doubt it though. I've found my own group of friends now, and yes it's a geeky bunch. Between us, we're Network Admins, Security Admins, Engineers, System Admins, and Security Admins. Our big hang out night is bringing some form of networking devices to a Linux Users Group meeting and "geeking" out. This last time it was wireless with a wireless access point. Of course our last big hang out was going last friday to "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." Pretty amusing movie--but then I saw the other 4 Kevin Smith movies (Dogma, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Clerks)

Anyway, enough rambling for now...

Journal Journal: Journal Kick Off

Figure I might as well try out the new slashcode feature, and see if I care to contine my journal here, or just code something in PHP and put it on my own domain.

*sigh* My domain...I bought it a couple of years ago, and have fought to get a decent broadband connection so I could host it. Finally I've got ADSL from Ameritech (didn't have much choice there, either them or Buckeye Cablesystem -- which I couldn't run services). One of my ex-girlfriends a few years ago had beta tested ADSL for Ameritech up in Ann Arbor and told me that I *had* to get it. Well yeah, I guess I did....but that was about 4 flipping years ago... *sigh*
