Submission + - Trump has decided that most computers have a place in his new economy

Can'tNot writes: Given that a full rollback of the tariffs would be admitting a mistake, the White House is now making exceptions. A bulletin issued on April 11th lists a number of categories which are now exempt from the "reciprocal" tariffs.

Included is category 8471, which covers desktop and laptop computers, category 8517.13.00: smartphones, and category 8542: integrated circuits. The USITC offers a convenient tool for anyone interested in identifying the rest of the exemptions.

Notably absent is category 9504.50, video game consoles and machines. Nintendo is launching the Switch 2 this June and has already announced delays with ordering as they attempt to navigate the tariffs. This seems likely to be the common fate of any business or industry which has not garnered enough attention or favor.
