I often encountered issues where the STL files I downloaded required minor modifications to be compatible with my 3D printer. Usually, this involved simply centering the model on the build platform or resizing it to fit. A few months ago, I developed OpenGL code to visualize both STL and GCode files for a different extensive project, which proved useful.
