Castreon Description
Castreon is a self-hosted live television headend software designed to operate on Linux servers, which can be managed via a web-based interface. It is capable of processing feeds from various sources, including DVB-C/T/T2 cards, IP cameras, and network protocols like SRT, RIST, UDP, RTMP, HTTP, HLS, and DASH, featuring automatic failover for sources. Users have the option to transcode content using either CPU or GPU, supporting formats such as H.264, HEVC, or AV1, while also enabling the creation of adaptive-bitrate outputs for seamless channel delivery through HLS, LL-HLS, DASH, HTTP-TS, and WebRTC, or by redistributing to other servers and CDNs. Additionally, the software facilitates continuous streaming from media files, offers catch-up and timeshift functionalities, supports recording and clipping options, and provides features such as access control, audience analytics, monitoring, alert systems, and a REST API for integration. Optional enhancements include support for SCTE-35, signed multi-CDN links, and digital rights management (DRM) capabilities. Castreon is specifically tailored for deployment on the operator’s own Linux server, catering to a diverse range of clients, including broadcasters, cable and IPTV operators, OTT services, hotels, and internet service providers, thereby enhancing their live streaming capabilities and content management processes.
