Alchemist X Description

Alchemist X is a professional video standards conversion platform developed by Grass Valley to help broadcasters and media organizations deliver high-quality content across different frame rates, resolutions, and broadcast formats. The software uses eighth-generation motion-compensated algorithms to maintain natural movement and minimize visual artifacts during video conversion. Its real-time processing engine supports standard definition, HD, 1080p, and UHD 2160p video for live production and media distribution workflows. HDR and SDR processing capabilities include color space conversion, support for HLG and PQ transfer functions, and customizable lookup tables. Additional video processing tools provide alias suppression, linear enhancement, picture adjustments, RGB legalizing, and graphics-friendly conversion modes. Alchemist X supports up to 16 audio channels with configurable gain, delay, and channel shuffling to maintain synchronization with processed video. Its HTML5 interface allows multiple operators to access configuration and monitoring controls remotely through a standard web browser. Integration with Grass Valley's Agile Media Processing Platform (AMPP) enables deployment across on-premises infrastructure, private clouds, public clouds, and hybrid environments. Flexible instance provisioning and pay-as-you-go options allow organizations to scale conversion capacity for live sports, seasonal events, international broadcasts, and other changing production requirements.

FPS broadcast high quality converter. Yes it can upscale.

    Date: Jan 22 2024

Summary: Amazing product, allowed us to offer the best picture quality without added aliasing or frame recombination when broadcasting European sources in our North American broadcasts. Used in conjunction with Kronos, it is a wonderful tool to also keep the sync of your closed captioned material and all your audio tracks.

Positive: Quality conversion from European videos to North American broadcast formats without speeding or slowing the source. Keeps the included closed captions in sync. You can also do the reverse. Change of speed is applied also to the sound (25 to 23,976, 24 to 25fps...), absolutely great. It can also upscale your content, but no AI to improve the picture. It is not the strength of this software. But for regular broadcast works, it keeps the quality of the picture when your source is film content. Also very good results when video sources (interlaced) are used.

Negative: It takes some times to find the correct parameters. Render process is quite slow (90 minutes movie may take 4 to 5 hours, depending on your hardware). Created for broadcast users. Pricey.
