Description
Bentley View serves as a complimentary CAD viewer that not only allows you to examine 3D models but also offers features such as object searches, precise distance and area measurements, and the ability to print drawings with full scale fidelity on any desktop. Boasting millions of users, it stands out as the most robust free viewer in the industry. While it is widely recognized as a leading AutoCAD reader, Bentley View supports over 50 file formats, including CAD files, raster images, and its own powerful iModels. The software enables the seamless opening of DWG and DXF designs with the same accuracy as the original authoring tools. Beyond its capabilities as a free DWG viewer, the latest CONNECT Edition introduces enhancements like additional format support and improved viewing functionalities. If your primary requirement is to simply view CAD files, Bentley View is an excellent free choice! However, for those looking to edit and create drawings, models, and visualizations, exploring MicroStation PowerDraft may be a worthwhile option to consider. This flexibility in functionality makes Bentley View an attractive solution for various user needs.
Description
I often encountered issues where the STL files I downloaded required minor modifications to be compatible with my 3D printer. Usually, this involved simply centering the model on the build platform or resizing it to fit. A few months ago, I developed OpenGL code to visualize both STL and GCode files for a different extensive project, which proved useful. Additionally, I faced challenges when trying to open ASCII-encoded STL files in my 3D/CAD application, which only supports binary STL files, prompting the need for a straightforward conversion method. To address these challenges, I created Pleasant3D, a compact utility designed to resolve these issues while incorporating my earlier visualization code for STL and GCode files. This latest version enhances the error checking within the Quicklook plugins and ensures that if Quicklook generation fails, the standard document icon is shown, preventing quicklookd from crashing during error occurrences. With these improvements, users can now expect a smoother and more reliable experience when handling their 3D printing files.
