Journal damn_registrars's Journal: Poll Shows Majority Of Americans Favor Public Health Care 6

ABC News reports that 72% of Americans favor public health care, and 57% favor raising taxes to cover all Americans. This shows further how far out of touch the government conservatives are in their continued assault on even having options for a government-sponsored health care plan. This further suggests that either the conservatives are failing to get their message across on this issue, or 72% of Americans just simply don't buy into what they are selling.

There is of course a distinct difference between constituents wanting new policy and constituents wanting new representation. Often constituents are convinced that voting for new representation is against their own interest (or they just simply don't bother to vote for much of anything other than POTUS), which leads to such a lack of change in congress.

Exactly. This is why I cringe when I hear people complain about congress, or any politician. With this kind of reelection rate, what possible incentive is there for any change? And as long as the same party always wins, term limits will do nothing to mitigate this. As is well documented with the presidency. These media polls are less than worthless... beyond t

If the USA had real political leadership someone would propose the way forward and lead people there - citizens, congress and companies.

Rather than giving in to poll driven mongering and hype real leadership would make a rational decision on facts (health care is currently too expensive in the USA and the system sucks), other countries do better so we should be able to do so. Given the amount spent on health care, identify the fat (ie follow the money and see where it goes) and do something about it.

    • If we look at the actual poll data [nytimes.com] instead of the conservative blog that you chose to link to, we can view the data that you are attempting to summarize and spin.

The data shows 48 votes polled for Obama, 25 for McCain, 5 wouldn't say who they voted for, 19 did not vote, 1 voted for someone else, and 1 apparently did not know who they voted for or gave no answer. Hence of a total of 99 voters:
      • 48.5% voted for Obama
      • 25.2% voted for McCain.

And if we presume that the 5 who would not answer are all ashamed
