I've been so frustrated with the current theme that I spent hours looking for something apart from "Ubuntu brown", "Something-something blue" "Gnome/Windows 95 grey" and "Suse green".
I ended up switching from a brown theme to a all white theme in the end.

Good to see something pretty coming out of Millbank Towers:-)

Submission + - Holographic human heads used by DJ in live show (wired.co.uk)

Lanxon writes: Director Chris Cairns to his short 'Neurosonics' film — which features disembodied heads mounted on a selection of instruments — into a live performance that's just as jaw-dropping as the original, reports Wired. The director originally created the 'Neurosonics Audiomedical Labs' film back in 2009. It's set in a lab, and depicts three scientists mounting a number of different heads onto turntables and drum sets before playing them like real instruments. The original video was created with plenty of CGI, so shifting it into a live setting was always going to prove troublesome. To bridge the gap between the virtual and the physical, Cairns enlisted the assistance of holographic projection experts Musion. The company set up the performance for the first Musion Academy Media Awards — which exist to recognise the most impressive holographic creations — and the result is truly impressive.

Submission + - Ubuntu dumps the brown, gets new visual identity (arstechnica.com) 4

buntcake writes: Canonical has launched a new visual identity for the Ubuntu Linux distribution. Ubuntu is shedding its previous brown look and adopting a more professional color scheme with purple and orange. The colors will be used in a new GNOME theme and boot splash for Ubuntu 10.04. According to updated design documents that were published in the Ubuntu wiki, "light" is the underlying concept behind the new visual identity. It displaces the "human" concept that has been part of Ubuntu's theming and brand vernacular for the past five years. Ubuntu community manager Jono Bacon has posted a screenshot and additional information.

Submission + - Ubuntu Desktop in the Cloud (starryhope.com)

jimjimovich writes: One new feature in Ubuntu 10.04 that caught my attention is the Desktop in the Cloud project. Ubuntu already has great EC2 support, and it's getting even better. Now you can launch Ubuntu Desktop instances on EC2 and connect to them with an NX client.

I can understand that writers are worried about this new threat.

Now millions of people can easily get books for free without paying anything for them.
It's like a gigantic library of free books!! Nobody will buy books if they can get them from a library, right?

The conspiracy theory about open source on the other hand, is just to stupid to comment on.

They use a software called MAS from a company called 3AMI (3AMI.com) I personally think it's a bad idea though to use propriatary software that doesn't even specify what level of security it practices between client and server. (oh nevermind, it requires a "password", it must be secure)

Some documentation would be nice.

The Norwegian Data Inspectorate (datatilsynet) is not to happy about their trials though.

Many users of pirated programs often seem to use these programs because they are expensive and give them a feeling of getting a Hummer for free. I bet a lot of them are also in it for the thrill, they like to feel a bit naughty. So when you offer them a Toyota Prius for free, they're thinking; "I've got this Hummer, it gives me status among my peers, you're offering this car to me for free? That's not naughty at all!"

So they pass on the enviromentaly freindly jap, and continue to use the gas gusteling brute. Pah, Windows users polute!
